How to Choose a Game Server Host in India (2026 Checklist)

Published on

Ten checks before you pay a game server host in India: server city, named CPU, currency, cards and UPI, tax, IST support, DDoS, panel, backups and refunds.

Your group is ready to play and you have five hosts open in your browser. One lists rupees, the next euros, a third dollars, and the promises blur together: India, low ping, DDoS protection. The differences show up after you pay: where the server really runs, what your bank takes, whether anyone answers at 11 at night IST, and what happens when you want your money back. This checklist puts ten checks in the order to make them and shows where to find each answer. The general version, without the India angle, is our guide to choosing a hosting provider.

Quick answer: Check the city the server runs in (Mumbai for a group in India, Singapore for one spread across Southeast Asia), the CPU for that location, the currency and payment methods on the checkout page, the tax in the order summary, support hours in IST, DDoS protection in the terms, the panel, backups, the upgrade path and the refund terms. If you pay a host abroad by card, switch on international online use first and ask how renewals are paid: under RBI rules, an Indian card is only charged automatically through an e-mandate. Pay for one month and measure your own ping before you commit to a year.

Check 1: Where the Server Runs

Start here: you can add RAM later, but you cannot move your players closer. Look for a city, not "India" or "Asia", check that the checkout names the same city, and check that your game is sold there, since a region list on the homepage may not apply to every game.

For a group mostly in India, a server in India is the first pick. Singapore fits when a real part of the group plays from Southeast Asia, and Europe or North America only when most players live there. Our Mumbai, Singapore or Europe guide compares them with public ping data for six Indian cities.

Do not choose on a ping figure from a host's page. Your ping depends on your city, your internet provider and whether you play on cable, Wi-Fi or mobile data, so measure it yourself with our ping test guide.

Check 2: What Hardware the Plan Names

"High performance" is not a spec. A plan should name the CPU model, memory type and storage type for the location you order, because hardware can differ per region at the same host: the CPU in the headline may not be the one in Mumbai. Ask whether the CPU is shared, which is normal for game plans, and whether the RAM in your plan is reserved for your server. With a model name you can check the maker's page yourself; AMD's spec pages, such as the one for the Ryzen 9 3900X, list the cores, clock speeds and launch date.

Check 3: Which Currency You Pay In, and How

Check these three on the checkout page, not the homepage.

Currency. A price in euros or dollars becomes a different rupee amount each time you pay. The ECB's reference rate was €1 = ₹108.83 on 1 October 2026 and ₹106.03 on 29 October, so a €2.70 plan went from about ₹294 to about ₹286 in one month. Your bank uses its own rate and may add a foreign currency fee.

Methods. If you want to pay by UPI, look for it on the checkout page and ask whether renewals can use it too. If you pay by card, turn on international online use first. Under the RBI's January 2020 circular, new and reissued cards work only at ATMs and shop terminals within India, and cards never used online or abroad had those uses switched off. Your bank must let you switch them on, for example in its app or internet banking.

Renewals. The RBI's e-mandate framework requires extra authentication on the first payment of an automatic repeat charge. Stripe's documentation for merchants adds that customers must be alerted at least 24 hours before each charge, and that without a mandate the payment "will be declined". Ask whether the host charges your card or emails an invoice, and how long you have before the server is suspended.

Check 4: What Tax the Invoice Adds

A price can be shown with or without tax, and the tax can depend on your billing address. Enter your real billing country and read the order summary before you pay: the subtotal, each tax line with its rate, and the total. If you buy for a registered business, ask before you order what the invoice will show, such as your company name and tax number.

Check 5: Support Hours in IST

Your group plays in the evening, and that is when things break. Convert the support hours. India keeps UTC+5:30 all year without daylight saving time, as the IANA time zone database shows, while its EU rules move the clocks in the EU on the last Sunday of March and of October. Hours set in EU local time therefore shift by an hour in IST twice a year. Then check which channels a person answers at your peak hours, and whether response times are promised or only estimated.

Check 6: DDoS Protection, in Writing

Ask whether DDoS protection is included or sold as an add-on, and whether it covers the India location like the others. Then read the terms for what happens during an attack the filter cannot stop: a host can block traffic or switch a server off to protect its network. The terms, not the product page, tell you what you can count on.

Check 7: The Panel You Will Use

Pterodactyl calls itself "a free, open-source control panel for game servers", with "a live console, files, backups and schedules" and subusers "with only the permissions they need", so a friend can restart the server without your password. For FiveM there is txAdmin, which its repository calls "the official FiveM server management platform", with scheduled restarts that warn players and a whitelist system. Check for full file access over SFTP, so your world or city can leave with you, and try the panel on your phone if you will manage it there.

Check 8: Backups

Ask whether backups are included, how many the plan keeps, whether they run on a schedule and where they are stored. A backup on the same machine does not help if that machine fails. Download your own copy before big changes such as a Minecraft update; our SMP guide for India shows how to time backups for a quiet hour in IST.

Check 9: The Upgrade Path

Groups grow, and vanilla worlds turn into modpacks. Ask whether you can move to a bigger plan without reinstalling, whether you pay only the difference for the days left, and whether you can change location later. In India, also ask whether the bigger plans in Mumbai run on the same hardware, or whether the faster line is sold only elsewhere.

Check 10: Refund and Cancellation Terms

Before you pay, find four answers in the terms: is there a trial or refund window, what happens to a paid period if you cancel, can the server run to the end of that period, and how long your files stay afterwards. A refund of a payment in euros or dollars comes back in that currency, so the rupee amount depends on your bank's rate that day.

How Space-Node Answers the Checklist

Here are the same checks for our own service, as our site, checkout and terms (version 29-10-2026) state them on 30 October 2026:

  • Location: our own node in Mumbai, plus a Singapore location for groups across Southeast Asia. Minecraft, FiveM, Rust and Palworld, for example, can be ordered with India (Mumbai) as the location. We quote no ping figure for India.
  • Hardware: Mumbai runs a Ryzen 9 3900X-class CPU (if that exact model is not available, a similar Ryzen with comparable single-thread performance) with DDR4 memory and NVMe storage. The CPU is shared; the RAM in your plan is reserved. Our Premium line is not sold in India yet. Singapore runs AMD Ryzen 9 5950X machines.
  • Currency and payment: euros. As of 30 October 2026, Minecraft in India starts at €2.70 a month for 3 GB (about ₹286 at the ECB rate of 29 October) and FiveM in Mumbai at €3.99 for 2 GB (about ₹423). The site can show an approximate rupee amount, but you pay in euros, by bank transfer, card or PayPal, plus iDEAL and Bancontact for Dutch and Belgian banks. UPI is not offered. Every game we sell in Mumbai, with its starting price, is on our India game server page.
  • Renewals: a plan renews for the same period until you cancel. Invoices are due within 14 days of the invoice date unless they say otherwise; a late payment brings a reminder with a final term, and the server can be suspended until it is paid.
  • Tax: prices include VAT unless stated otherwise. The checkout shows the subtotal, the VAT and the total, and says "VAT is calculated for your billing country."
  • Support: live chat, tickets and Discord every day from 13:30 to 01:30 IST (08:00 to 20:00 UTC), and email within two to three business days. A Priority support add-on puts your tickets first in the queue.
  • DDoS protection: included on every India plan at no extra charge, on Minecraft at the standard level. The terms add that we filter attacks with network partners, that this differs per location and that no protection stops every attack.
  • Panel: Pterodactyl for Minecraft, with SFTP access and one-click installs for Paper, Purpur, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and modpacks; txAdmin comes pre-installed on FiveM.
  • Backups: you make them in the panel, within your plan's backup slots. Automatic Off-Site Backups (daily) and five extra backup slots are add-ons at checkout. The terms make you responsible for your own copies.
  • Upgrades: upgrade from the client area; when you change plan, the current period is calculated in proportion. Moving a server between our locations is free about once a week through live chat, and a one-time migration from another host costs €15 at checkout.
  • Refunds: no free trial. If you order as a consumer, you can withdraw within 14 days and pay only for the part of the period that has passed; business clients have no right of withdrawal. After that, paid periods are not refunded. You can cancel for the end of the paid period or at once, and files can be deleted from 24 hours after a service ends, so download them first.

Which One Fits

  • Friends in one part of India: the location and the converted price matter most, then the panel and backups. Pay monthly until the group settles.
  • Players across India and Southeast Asia: compare Mumbai and Singapore with your own measurements before you pay for a longer term.
  • A public server or a GTA RP city: support in your evening, DDoS terms and backups off the machine weigh more than the lowest price. On FiveM, plan around Cfx.re's 48-slot rule in the FAQ below.

FAQ

Is a host based in India better than a host abroad with a server in India? Not by itself. Your ping depends on where the server runs and on the networks between you and it, not on where the company is registered. The company decides the currency, the payment methods, the tax on the invoice, the support hours and the terms. Space-Node, for example, is a company in the Netherlands that bills in euros and runs its own node in Mumbai.

Can I pay for a game server in rupees or with UPI? Hosts that take rupees or UPI show it on the checkout page, so look there, not at a logo on the homepage. At Space-Node you pay in euros by bank transfer, card or PayPal; UPI is not offered. Every game we sell in Mumbai, with its starting price, is on our India game server page. If you pay by card from India, turn on international online use in your bank's app or internet banking before you order.

Should I pay monthly or yearly? Monthly first. One month shows you your real ping in game, how support answers in your evening and how the panel suits your group. Move to a longer term once you stay: as of 30 October 2026, our Minecraft India plans cost about 5% less per month quarterly, 10% less half-yearly and 20% less yearly (3 GB is €25.92 a year), and our FiveM plans 10% less yearly.

Can a FiveM plan with 64 slots hold 64 players? Only with Element Club. Cfx.re's server hosting page says that by default a server "supports up to 48 players using OneSync Infinity", and its hosting providers page says more than 48 slots needs Element Club Argentum or above, from the Cfx Portal. On 30 October 2026, Argentum cost $15 a month plus VAT for up to 64 slots. You subscribe on the Cfx.re account that owns your server's license key; our FiveM cost guide for India prices every tier.
