Frequently Asked Questions
- Yes. Pick Australia (Sydney) or Singapore in the plan selector. Both cost the same as our European servers, from €2.20 a month for 2 GB RAM. Servers there run on a shared AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with NVMe storage and DDoS protection. For New Zealand, Sydney is our closest location; for Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam it is Singapore.
- Open the panel, paste your Workshop collection URL or ID into the startup configuration, and restart the server. Every addon in the collection downloads and mounts automatically. You can also add individual addon IDs one at a time.
- Yes. Garry's Mod hosting on Space-Node supports any gamemode: install it like any other addon through the Workshop or upload it manually via FTP, then set it as your server's default gamemode in the startup parameters.
- A small Sandbox or Prop Hunt server with a light addon list runs fine on 2GB. DarkRP and TTT servers with a real Workshop collection and more concurrent players are more comfortable on 4GB, and busy or heavily-addoned servers benefit from 6GB.
- Yes, full FTP access lets you upload custom Lua gamemodes, modify existing ones, and manage server-side scripts directly.
- Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Canada, USA (California), USA (Virginia), Singapore, India, and Australia. Pick the region closest to most of your players from the plan selector, and the live latency check shows you real ping before you order.
- Yes, on every Garry's Mod plan at no extra cost.
- Almost always a collection visibility problem. A Steam Workshop collection has to be set to Public, not Friends Only or Unlisted, before a server can read it. If the collection is public and single addons still fail, one item in it has probably been removed from the Workshop by its author, which stalls the whole collection.
- Garry's Mod is single threaded for game logic, so player count is limited by per tick CPU work rather than by RAM. Sandbox with light addons is comfortable around 32 players. DarkRP with an economy, jobs and entity spawning starts to feel it past 40 to 50, regardless of how much memory you add.
- The server is mounting Workshop content and has not finished. Large collections can take several minutes on first boot because every addon downloads before the map loads. It is normal on the first start after adding a collection and should be fast on later restarts because the content is cached.
- If your players need to download custom models, maps or sounds, yes. Without FastDL, clients pull content through the game server itself, which is slow and makes joining feel broken. FastDL serves those files over HTTP instead and turns a two minute join into a few seconds.
- Both run on a web server next to your game server. FastDL needs a separate web server that players download from: set sv_downloadurl to its address, and clients ask for a compressed .bz2 copy of each file first and fall back to the normal file. A loading screen is a web page you set with sv_loadingurl; in that address %s inserts the joining player's Steam ID and %m the map name. Our web hosting, from €2.49 a month, serves both from your own domain. Big downloads use a lot of traffic, so pick Medium (100GB of traffic a month) or larger for them.
- Yes. Copy the garrysmod/data folder for saved entities and addon data, garrysmod/settings for your admin lists, and your server.cfg. Workshop addons do not need copying because they redownload from their IDs.
- A crash drops every player at once with a connection lost message and leaves a line in the console log. A map change disconnects everyone briefly and then lets them straight back in. If players return automatically, you are looking at a map change or a scheduled restart, not a crash.
