Which plan fits your SkyFactory 5 server?
The official SkyFactory 5 server files set a 4GB Java heap, and their README calls 4GB the recommended minimum. Java needs memory on top of that heap, so we start SkyFactory 5 at 6GB. The pack gives no player counts: more people online and bigger automation both need more heap, which is why we suggest 8GB.

CPU matters
Minecraft cares about single-thread speed. In the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Canada, Premium runs Ryzen 9 9950X and Standard Ryzen 9 3900X-class. California and Virginia run the 7950X3D, Singapore and Australia the 5950X, and India (Mumbai) the 3900X-class, each as a single tier.
Protection choices
DDoS protection is included on every plan in every region. Premium and the USA locations run behind Cloudflare Magic Transit; Standard, Singapore, Australia and India use standard protection. There is no paid add-on.
Panel included
Console, files, backups, schedules, startup flags, and sub-users are ready.

Setup
From order to first join
Step 1
Pick 6GB or more and a region
Your server and control panel login arrive by email after payment.
Step 2
Install Forge and the pack
Install Forge 1.20.1-47.4.0 from the panel, then upload the contents of SkyFactory_5_Server_5.0.8.zip over SFTP. Set Java 17, start once, accept the EULA in eula.txt and start again.
Step 3
Match the pack version
Players install SkyFactory 5 5.0.8 in the CurseForge app and give the game at least 6GB of RAM, as the pack page asks.
Running the server
SkyFactory 5 things worth knowing before you start
The server files cap Java at 4GB
The server files ship user_jvm_args.txt with -Xmx4G. If your server starts through that file, raise -Xmx on a bigger plan so the server can actually use the RAM you pay for, and leave a couple of GB free for Java itself.
Backups every 30 minutes, on your own disk
Simple Backups is on by default: a full backup every 30 minutes while players are online, the last 7 kept, up to 25GB in the backups folder. That folder counts against your plan's NVMe storage; the settings live in config/simplebackups-common.toml.
Chunk loaders have no cap
config/chunkloaders-common.toml allows unlimited loaded chunks per player, and a player's loaders only switch off after 7 days offline. On a public server, set maxLoadedChunksPerPlayer to a real limit.
No new version since March 2025
5.0.8 from 11 March 2025 was still the latest file on CurseForge on 30 September 2026, so a new world will not need a pack update every few weeks. Bugs go to the DarkPacks/SkyFactory-5 tracker on GitHub.
Teams share progress
Since 5.0.8 the pack includes Together Forever, which syncs advancements and game stages between players in the same team, so a group can work through the color stages together.
Do not copy your client mods folder
The client install pulls 293 files from CurseForge, while the server files hold 264 mod jars. Always start from the official server files instead.

SkyFactory 5 Hosting FAQ
- The official server files set a 4GB Java heap, and their README calls 4GB the recommended minimum. Java needs memory on top of the heap, so we start SkyFactory 5 at 6GB and suggest 8GB, which lets you raise the heap to 6GB as the factory grows. The pack publishes no player counts; more people online and bigger automation both need more.
- The SkyFactory 5 server files ship a user_jvm_args.txt with -Xmx4G. If your server starts through that file, Java never uses more than 4GB, no matter how much RAM the plan has. Open user_jvm_args.txt in the file manager and raise -Xmx to fit your plan, leaving a couple of GB free for Java itself.
- SkyFactory 5 5.0.8 runs on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.0. The CurseForge page says Java 17 is required, and the server README recommends Java 17 (64 bit). You can pick the Java version in the Startup tab of the panel.
- On the SkyFactory 5 CurseForge page, open the files tab, pick 5.0.8 and look under Additional Files for SkyFactory_5_Server_5.0.8.zip (just under 300 MB). It contains the Forge 47.4.0 installer, Install.sh and Install.bat, user_jvm_args.txt, server.properties and the mods, config, defaultconfigs, scripts, global_packs and thingpacks folders.
- It is a full release. The first SkyFactory 5 files went up on CurseForge on 31 December 2024, and 5.0.2 on 2 January 2025 was the first one marked as a release. The latest version is 5.0.8 from 11 March 2025; there was no newer file when we checked on 30 September 2026.
- Yes. Everyone needs the exact same pack version as the server, so 5.0.8 on both sides. The pack page asks players to allocate at least 6GB of RAM to the game on their own PC.
- Yes, since 5.0.8 the pack includes Simple Backups. It makes a full backup every 30 minutes while players are online and keeps the last 7, up to 25GB, in the backups folder on the server's own disk. That folder counts against your plan's storage. Change the timer and limits in config/simplebackups-common.toml, and still take a backup from the panel before you change anything big.
- For a new server, SkyFactory 5. It runs on Minecraft 1.20.1 and Java 17. SkyFactory 4 last updated to 4.2.4 in December 2021, runs on Minecraft 1.12.2 and needs Java 8. Stay on SkyFactory 4 only if your group already has a world there; worlds do not carry over between the two packs.
- Yes. Upload the world folder over SFTP, set level-name in server.properties to its folder name and make sure the server runs the same SkyFactory 5 version the world was last played on. SFTP is the better choice for worlds over 1GB.
- The one closest to most of your players. We run SkyFactory 5 capable servers in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Canada, USA (California and Virginia), Singapore, India and Australia. The plan selector measures your ping to each region and suggests the fastest.
