Your friends want a Cobblemon world of their own: catching, training and battling together in the evenings, on a server in India that stays online when everyone logs off. Before you order, three things decide whether the first evening works: who in the group can join at all, how much memory the pack needs on the server and on every laptop, and what it costs when you pay from India. This guide covers those. For loader versions, Java 21 and a safe update routine, use our Cobblemon server setup guide; this post does not repeat it.
Quick answer: Host Cobblemon on a Java server in Mumbai and plan for PC players only. Cobblemon 1.8.4 runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric or NeoForge, every player installs the same version, and Geyser cannot bring Bedrock phones onto a server that needs mods on the client. Plan on 8 GB of server RAM for up to 10 players, 12 GB for 10 to 25 players or extra sidemods, and 16 GB past 25. In Mumbai, 8 GB costs €7.20 a month as of 30 October 2026 (about ₹763 at the ECB rate of 29 October), billed in euros. On every laptop, give the official modpack at least 3 GB in the launcher and expect a first download of about 320 MB. Measure ping on the running server: the official pack shows each player's ping as a number in the Tab list.
Who in Your Group Can Join
Cobblemon is a Java Edition mod. Modrinth describes it as "A Pokémon mod for Fabric and NeoForge" and lists it as required on both the client and the server, so every player installs it, in the same version as the server. Check each friend before anyone pays:
- Phone and console players cannot join. Mojang's store page lists Bedrock Edition for "consoles, mobile, Chromebook, and PC". Bedrock players reach Java servers through Geyser, and Geyser stops at mods: its FAQ says "servers that require mods to be installed clientside are unsupportable through Geyser".
- A friend on Bedrock for Windows may already own Java. The same page says Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC "now includes both Java and Bedrock Edition", and Java runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Check the launcher before anyone buys a second copy.
- Everyone needs a real Java account. Keep
online-mode=truein server.properties. The Minecraft Wiki warns that "hackers with fake accounts can connect if this is set to false", so a friend on a cracked launcher cannot join. Our SMP guide for India sets up the whitelist. - Cobblemon does not run on the newest Minecraft. Version 1.8.4 targets Minecraft 1.21.1 only, a release from August 2024, while Mojang's current Java release is 26.3. Cobblemon's files are built for Fabric and NeoForge, not Paper, so it cannot be added to a Paper SMP on 26.3.
If the group mixes phones and PCs, run two worlds: a Paper SMP with Geyser for everyone, which our Java or Bedrock guide for Indian friend groups covers, and Cobblemon on a separate server for the PC players.
Choose the Pack, Then the Server RAM
The pack decides the memory. The Cobblemon team publishes an official modpack for Fabric and a NeoForge version. Version 1.8.4 of the Fabric pack holds 77 files: Cobblemon, performance mods such as Sodium, Lithium and FerriteCore, maps, recipe viewers and visual extras, plus a shader pack and a resource pack that are "disabled by default". Its page also says the pack "will allow clients to connect to servers that only run Cobblemon and Fabric API", so the server can run plain Cobblemon while players use the pack. Bigger packs add sidemods such as Mega Showdown and Cobblemon Additions; Cobbleverse ships both, as our Cobbleverse guide notes, and they need more memory.
Our Cobblemon hosting page sizes servers as in the table below, and the same sizes run on our own node in Mumbai: a Ryzen 9 3900X-class CPU shared with other servers on the machine, DDR4 memory, NVMe storage and DDoS protection at the standard level. Premium is not sold in India yet. Monthly prices as of 30 October 2026, with rupees at the ECB reference rate of 29 October 2026 (€1 = ₹106.03):
| Your Cobblemon world | Server RAM | Mumbai plan and storage | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain Cobblemon or a light pack, up to 10 players | 8 GB | MC Diamond, 80 GB NVMe | €7.20, about ₹763 |
| 10 to 25 players, or sidemods such as Mega Showdown | 12 GB | MC Special 1, 100 GB NVMe | €10.80, about ₹1,145 |
| A public server past 25 players | 16 GB | MC Special 3, 130 GB NVMe | €14.40, about ₹1,527 |
Fabric, NeoForge and popular modpacks like Cobblemon install from the panel, or you upload your own files over SFTP. MC Special 2 (15 GB, 120 GB NVMe, €13.50) sits between the last two. Paying for a quarter, half year or year ahead takes about 5%, 10% or 20% off, so MC Diamond costs €69.12 a year, €5.76 a month. You can upgrade from the client area later and keep the world. If an update goes wrong at 22:00 IST, a person can still help: our live chat, tickets and Discord are answered every day from 13:30 to 01:30 IST.
Get Every Laptop Ready Before the First Session
Each player runs the same Cobblemon version as the server, so check the laptops as well as the plan:
- Memory in the launcher. The official pack's page recommends "a minimum of 2.5 GB of memory" and "3 GB or more for best performance". The source code of the Modrinth App 0.22.1, released on 29 October 2026, sets its default to 2 GB when it counts less than 8 GB of memory in the computer, and to 4 GB from 8 GB up to 24 GB. On a laptop with 8 GB or less, open the instance's settings and go to Java and memory. If the memory slider shows less than 3 GB, switch on Custom memory allocation and set 3 GB (3072 MB).
- The download. The 1.8.4 Fabric pack file is 100.9 MB, and the 77 files it fetches add 219.3 MB: about 320 MB in all, or 329 MB for the NeoForge pack, plus Minecraft 1.21.1 itself on a fresh launcher. The Cobblemon jar alone is 140 MB, and Cobbled Farms, a bundled single-player tutorial world, takes 91 MB of the pack file. A friend on mobile data or a phone hotspot should download it on Wi-Fi first.
- The update rhythm. Cobblemon has had five releases since 6 September 2026: 1.8.0, then 1.8.1 on 12 September, 1.8.2 on 11 October, 1.8.3 on 25 October and 1.8.4 on 27 October. The server and every player move to a new version together, so agree on an update evening in the group chat. The setup guide has the routine.
The shader pack ships switched off; leave it that way on a weaker laptop.
Keep a Shared CPU Ahead of Your Riders
Mumbai has one hardware line, so moving to a faster CPU is not an option there. What you can do is give the CPU less work while you play. Since Cobblemon 1.7.0, players ride their Pokémon, flyers included, and every chunk someone reaches for the first time has to be generated by the server. Generate the area in advance with Chunky, which has builds for Minecraft 1.21.1 on Fabric and NeoForge (version 1.4.23). Players do not need it, since Modrinth lists it as optional on the client, and the Fabric build needs only Fabric API, which a Fabric Cobblemon server already runs.
Put the jar in the server's mods folder, restart, and run these in the console (in game, start each with /):
worldborder set 4000
chunky worldborder
chunky start
worldborder set takes the border's width in blocks, so this example makes a square 4,000 blocks across, centred on 0, 0 unless you moved it. chunky worldborder copies that square into Chunky, and chunky start begins. If friends join mid-run, chunky pause saves progress and chunky continue resumes it; chunky progress shows how far it is, as the Chunky command list describes. To give explorers more room later, set a wider border, then run chunky worldborder and chunky start again. Our Cobblemon optimization guide covers view distance and spark profiling.
Measure Ping on the Running Server
There is no ping figure to look up for Mumbai in advance: yours depends on your city, your provider and your connection, be it cable, Wi-Fi or mobile data. Measure it once the server runs, at the hours your group plays.
In the multiplayer list, hover over the signal bars next to the server. The Minecraft Wiki notes that a tooltip then shows your ping, and that the full-bars icon covers anything from 0 to 150 ms, so read the number. In game, both official packs include Better Ping Display, which "adds a configurable numerical ping display to the player list". Hold Tab, the default List Players key, and the group can compare the friend on a phone hotspot with the friend on cable.
Our Mumbai ping guide adds ping and route tests from a laptop. If part of the group lives in Southeast Asia, our location guide compares Mumbai with Singapore.
Which One Fits
- Two to ten friends, all on PC, on the official pack: 8 GB, MC Diamond.
- Mega Showdown, Cobblemon Additions or a pack that ships them, or 10 to 25 players: 12 GB, MC Special 1.
- A public server past 25 players: 16 GB, MC Special 3, with the world pregenerated before you announce it.
- A group that includes phone players: a Paper SMP with Geyser for everyone, and Cobblemon as a second world for the PC players.
- Friends across India and Southeast Asia: compare Mumbai and Singapore in the location guide first.
FAQ
Can friends on Minecraft PE join a Cobblemon server? No. The Minecraft Wiki explains that Bedrock Edition continued Pocket Edition in 2017, and the old names "MCPE" and "PE" are still sometimes used for it. Cobblemon is a mod for Fabric and NeoForge on Java Edition, and Geyser cannot carry Bedrock players onto a server that needs mods on the client. A friend with Bedrock on a Windows PC may already own Java Edition through Mojang's PC bundle.
Is Cobblemon available in Hindi? Not in 1.8.4. Its 29 language files include Thai and Vietnamese but no Hindi, Tamil or Kannada, although Minecraft itself offers all three. A player who sets the game to Hindi sees Minecraft's own text in Hindi and Cobblemon's menus, moves and Pokémon names in English: when a text has no translation in the chosen language, the game falls back to US English, as the NeoForge documentation explains.
Does every friend need the official modpack? Not if the server runs plain Cobblemon, but everyone needs the same Cobblemon version and loader as the server. The Fabric pack's page says it lets players "connect to servers that only run Cobblemon and Fabric API" (Kotlin for Forge on NeoForge), so on such a server, friends on the official pack and a friend with only Cobblemon and Fabric API play together. On a server that runs a bigger pack such as Cobbleverse, everyone installs the same pack version.
Is there an official Cobblemon server for India? No. The official modpack's page says Cobblemon "does NOT have an official server" at all, and points to public servers listed on the Cobblemon website and in its Discord. For a world with only your own group, you run your own server.
Can I pay in rupees or with UPI? No. The Mumbai plans are billed in euros. The order page lists bank transfer, card and PayPal, plus iDEAL and Bancontact for Dutch and Belgian banks; UPI is not offered. Our website can show an approximate rupee amount, but your bank converts the euro price at its own rate on the day you pay, and the checkout notes that "VAT is calculated for your billing country", so check the total there before you pay.
