Short answer: stream Roblox in OBS with a Window Capture source, not Game Capture. Roblox says so in its own help center: "OBS in-game capture is known to have issues with Roblox. Please use window or desktop capture instead." If the window shows up white or black, set the capture method to "Windows 10 (1903 and up)". Then pick the bitrate for your platform: Twitch recommends 6,000 kbps for 1080p at 60 fps, and Kick allows up to 8,000 kbps.
The rest of this guide goes through the settings step by step.
Step 1: capture Roblox with Window Capture
Roblox Player for Windows has an anti-cheat that does not get along with the way OBS Game Capture hooks into games. Roblox lists OBS among its anti-cheat messages, and the OBS team gives the same advice in its Game Capture troubleshooting guide: "Use window Capture instead of Game Capture".
- Start Roblox and join a game, so the window exists.
- In OBS, add a source: Window Capture.
- Under Window, choose the Roblox window (RobloxPlayerBeta.exe).
- Set Capture Method to Windows 10 (1903 and up).
- Add an Application Audio Capture source (OBS 28 and newer) and pick Roblox, so the stream carries the game's sound and not every notification on your PC.
Why step 4 matters: on the "Automatic" setting OBS can fall back to the older BitBlt method, and with Roblox that often gives a white or black picture. Choosing the Windows 10 method by hand fixes it for most people, as described in this OBS forum thread. A change merged into OBS in September 2026 makes a future version pick this method for Roblox by itself.
If you also want your desktop or several windows in the stream, a Display Capture source works too. Roblox mentions desktop capture as the other safe option.
Step 2: set Roblox's frame rate
Roblox has a Maximum Frame Rate setting in its in-game settings menu. Roblox introduced it in 2024 with these values: "Default (60 FPS, not your refresh rate), 60 FPS, 120 FPS, 144 FPS, and 240 FPS" (DevForum announcement).
For a stream at 60 fps, 60 is enough. Running Roblox at 144 or 240 fps while you stream makes your graphics card work harder for frames your viewers never see, and it leaves less room for OBS.
Step 3: output settings per platform
In OBS go to Settings, then Output (set Output Mode to Advanced), and Settings, then Video for resolution and frame rate.
Twitch (broadcasting guidelines):
- 1080p at 60 fps: 6,000 kbps
- 720p at 60 fps: 4,500 kbps
- Rate control CBR, keyframe interval 2 seconds
YouTube (live encoder settings), H.264:
- 1080p at 60 fps: at least 6 Mbps, 17 Mbps recommended
- 720p at 60 fps: at least 3 Mbps, 8 Mbps recommended
- CBR, keyframe interval 2 seconds
Kick (how to stream on Kick):
- "KICK currently supports a maximum bitrate of 8,000kbps"
- Up to 1080p at 60 fps, CBR, H.264
Encoder: if your PC has an NVIDIA graphics card, use the hardware encoder (NVENC). It runs on a separate part of the card, so encoding the stream takes little away from Roblox. Every GTX 1050, GTX 1650 and Quadro RTX 4000 has one; NVIDIA's encode support matrix lists which generation each card has.
Check your own upload speed before you pick a bitrate. If your connection cannot keep up, the stream stutters for everyone, whatever your settings.
Streaming Roblox from a cloud PC
Streaming from home has two limits: your PC has to run Roblox and OBS at once, and the stream depends on your home upload. Moving both to a machine in a datacenter removes both problems. Your own computer then only shows the screen, and stays free for chat, alerts and talking to viewers.
It has to be the right kind of machine, though. Roblox Player does not start on an ordinary VPS: on a virtual machine without its own graphics card it stops with "Virtual machine detected" (see our guide to that error).
That is why our Creator + Stream plan is a dedicated machine with an NVIDIA card in the GTX 1650 class and OBS installed, hosted in the Netherlands, for €79.99 a month. You connect to it with RustDesk or AnyDesk and stream straight from the datacenter to Twitch, YouTube or Kick. See all plans on our Roblox VPS page.
Common problems
OBS shows a black or white window. Set the Window Capture method to "Windows 10 (1903 and up)", as in step 1.
Roblox closes when OBS is open. Remove any Game Capture source that targets Roblox. Roblox's anti-cheat lists OBS in-game capture as a known problem.
No game sound in the stream. Add an Application Audio Capture source and pick Roblox, or check that Desktop Audio is not muted in the mixer.
The stream stutters while the game runs fine. Lower the bitrate or the output resolution, and cap Roblox at 60 fps so the graphics card has room for the encoder.
FAQ
Why does OBS Game Capture not work with Roblox?
Roblox's anti-cheat interferes with the way Game Capture hooks into games, and Roblox calls in-game capture "known to have issues". Both Roblox and OBS advise Window Capture or Display Capture instead.
What bitrate should I use to stream Roblox on Twitch?
Twitch recommends 6,000 kbps for 1080p at 60 fps and 4,500 kbps for 720p at 60 fps, with CBR and a 2 second keyframe interval.
Can I stream Roblox without a strong PC?
Yes, from a cloud PC with its own graphics card: Roblox and OBS run there, and your own device only shows the screen. A normal VPS does not work, because Roblox Player stops on virtual machines without graphics hardware.
Does Roblox disconnect me if I stream without playing?
Roblox's documentation says it "automatically disconnects players that have been idle for at least 20 minutes" (Player.Idled). Streaming does not change that.
