How to AFK in Roblox With Your PC Off (2026)

With your PC off, Roblox is off. How to stay AFK anyway with a spare PC, a cloud phone or a machine that stays on, and what Roblox's 20 minute idle rule allows.

A laptop almost closed on a dark table, its screen glow lighting the keyboard

You want your Roblox character to stay in a game while you sleep or are away: in an AFK area, earning rewards for time in the game, or holding your spot in a server. Then you shut down the PC, and you are out. The Roblox app on your PC is your connection to the game server, so when the PC turns off, that connection ends. To stay AFK with your PC off, another device has to keep Roblox open for you, and Roblox's idle rule applies there too.

Quick answer: With your PC off, Roblox is off, so another device has to keep it open: a spare PC or laptop, a cloud phone, a cloud gaming PC or a virtual machine in a data center. None of them changes the rule that "Roblox automatically disconnects players that have been idle for at least 20 minutes". The machine keeps Roblox open, but staying in a game depends on that rule and on the game. Run one account per device, sign in yourself with the official app, and leave out anti-AFK scripts, macros and auto-clickers.

First: What Roblox Allows While You Are AFK

Roblox's Community Standards and its Terms of Use in force from 1 November 2026 do not mention AFK or idle players. These rules shape an AFK setup (checked 1 November 2026):

  • 20 minutes without input ends the session. Roblox's documentation for Player.Idled says "Roblox automatically disconnects players that have been idle for at least 20 minutes", and once you are active again, "the elapsed idle time resets". It suggests the same event for "disconnecting players prior to those 20 minutes, or other away from keyboard (AFK) features", so a game can send you away sooner or offer AFK features of its own.
  • AFK-style games are a game feature, not a player permission. Roblox's Creator Third Party App Policy is written for apps that developers build on Roblox's APIs, not for players. It bans those apps from "Executing automated in game actions such as movements", but "Exceptions may be made for specific AFK-style game experiences" built around time away. Check what your game does while you are away: if it keeps progressing offline, you need no machine at all.
  • No exploits or automation. The Community Standards forbid "Using or sharing exploits to help yourself or others gain an unfair advantage anywhere on the platform" and "Using bots or other automation that is programmed to run disruptive tasks".
  • One Roblox window per computer. A Roblox staff member wrote in April 2026: "we don't plan to support multiple clients running on the same computer". Plan one AFK account per device; Roblox Account Manager and Multiple Accounts goes deeper.
  • Alts and Error 264. Roblox's Account Switcher allows "up to five accounts" for players aged 13 and older, but Roblox "may take action on different accounts that we determine belong to the same user", and each game's rules on alts apply. "Error code 264 occurs when the same account attempts to access the same game from multiple devices simultaneously", so to play the same game on your phone, put another account of your own on the AFK device.
  • Only your own account. Under section 2.4 of the Terms in force from 1 November 2026, you are responsible for "any actions taken on your Account", and "Selling your Account, selling your access credentials, or contributing to the unauthorized use of your Account is strictly prohibited." Never hand your login to a person or service that offers to stay AFK for you.
  • Not a way around a block. The Community Standards forbid "Using VPNs to mask your location in order to gain unauthorized access to Roblox", and Roblox sets your account's region "based on device signals including your IP address". Rent a machine to keep Roblox open, not to reach Roblox where it is blocked.

Option 1: Leave a Spare PC or Laptop Running

This is the free way: the official Roblox app on hardware you already own. Install Roblox from roblox.com, sign in, join the game and leave it open. Then keep the machine awake: on a PC, open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts and set Make my device sleep after to Never for when it is plugged in (Microsoft's guide). The screen may turn off; sleep is what drops the connection. Keep a laptop on the charger.

A remote desktop app such as RustDesk or AnyDesk lets you look in from your phone and beat the 20 minute timer the honest way: connect, move your character, and you are active again.

The downsides: the machine draws power all the time, and a restart for updates or a power cut closes Roblox.

Option 2: Rent a Cloud Phone

A cloud phone is an Android phone in a data center that you control from an app, and it keeps running when you close that app. Several services sell them for AFK play, and on 1 November 2026 the homepages of UGPhone, VSPhone and Redfinger offered a free trial. It runs the Android version of Roblox; Roblox Cloud PC vs Cloud Phone compares the two.

The catch is how Roblox treats emulators. Since 7 August 2025, "Players without creator permissions will be kicked if detected on an emulator". Roblox's page on Android Remote Attestation, edited 14 September 2026, says its "integrity checks are designed to treat Android emulators and virtual devices as untrusted", and "Game creators choose whether and how strictly to use device-backed integrity". Redfinger's own site calls it "the best Android emulator", VSPhone contrasts itself with "Android emulators that run on your own PC", and these Roblox pages name no cloud phone service. So test the exact game with the free trial before you pay, and skip any service that advertises ways to avoid detection.

Option 3: Use a Cloud Gaming PC

Cloud gaming services rent you a gaming PC with a real graphics card that you stream to any screen, and Shadow has a page about playing Roblox on it. They are made for play sessions, not for standing AFK. Shadow's plan table (US site, checked 1 November 2026) ends a session after 4, 6 or 8 hours depending on the tier, shuts the PC down after 30 idle minutes (120 on the top tier) and allows 120 or 210 hours of use a month. Only the top tier lists an "Always On option", without details on that page. Those limits fit an evening of play, not a night of AFK.

Roblox's error code page also says: "Virtual Machines and Cloud based computers are not supported by Roblox". That goes for every rented machine, Option 4 included.

Option 4: Rent a Machine That Stays On

A VPS in a data center keeps running when you close your connection, so it can keep Roblox open while everything at home is off. Most VPSes are virtual machines without a graphics card, and there Roblox Player often stops with "Virtual machine detected". Roblox's help page for that message says "Roblox requires GPU passthrough to function properly within a VM"; Roblox Virtual Machine Detected explains the options. Never try a tool that hides the virtual machine: under section 9.2 of the Terms you will not "circumvent, disable, fraudulently engage with any part of the Service".

Some virtual machines without a graphics card do start Roblox. Our Roblox AFK VM is one: in our own test on 27 October 2026, Roblox Player started on it. Its processor draws every frame, so it runs at low FPS: fine for standing AFK and idle games, not for smooth play. It is a virtual machine in the Netherlands with 8 GB of RAM, you connect with RustDesk or AnyDesk, and it costs €19.99 a month including VAT (as of 31 October 2026). Roblox does not officially support virtual machines, so an update can change this, and we cannot promise that every game works. Plan one account per AFK VM.

If you also want smooth play from a phone or Chromebook, the machine needs graphics: our Roblox Cloud PC is a dedicated mini PC with integrated graphics for €49.99 a month. Live stock for both is on the Roblox VPS page.

Set Up the AFK Machine

For Option 1 and Option 4, where you control a whole computer:

  1. If Roblox is not installed yet, install it from an official source such as roblox.com.
  2. Sign in to your own account yourself and turn on 2-Step Verification; Roblox recommends the authenticator app option.
  3. In the game, press Esc, open Settings, set Graphics Mode to Manual and move the Graphics Quality slider to the left, the side Roblox's help center calls "better performance". This matters most without a graphics card.
  4. Close the remote app's connection when you leave. That ends only the remote view, and Roblox keeps running. Do not sign out of the computer: that closes every program, Roblox included.
  5. Done with the machine for good? Sign out of Roblox on it. Then, on your own phone or PC, open Roblox Settings > Security > Where you're logged in and log out of that session.

Roblox Anti-AFK Tools: Why We Leave Them Out

Search for "roblox anti afk" and you find tools that fake input so the 20 minute timer never runs out. Both kinds carry risks:

  • Scripts that run inside Roblox need a script executor. Roblox calls "running instances of the official version of Roblox modified by external tools at runtime" modified clients, and since May 2025 it may act against an account that uses one "up to and including account termination". Executors are also a malware trap: in August 2026 BleepingComputer reported fake "undetected" executor installers, spread through gaming forums and Discord, that steal browser cookies and account tokens, Roblox ones included.
  • Auto-clickers and macros press keys from outside the app. Roblox's rules do not name them, but in January 2025 Roblox wrote that it has been "tackling account farming, exploits, and automated play for many years", with an AI model "targeting the responsible accounts and their alts". In August 2026 it began removing bot accounts and warned that "detected bot accounts might be kicked from game sessions in real-time". Games can set their own rules too.

The 20 minute disconnect is how Roblox deals with players who are away, so don't fake activity to dodge it. We don't offer, install or support these tools. What stays within the rules: a game's own AFK features, or checking in yourself from a remote app now and then.

If It Still Fails

  • Disconnected after about 20 minutes. That is Roblox's idle rule, on every device. Check in before the time runs out, or play a game with its own AFK features. Server restarts and the other reasons a session ends are in why Roblox disconnects while your cloud PC stays on.
  • "Virtual machine detected" on a VPS. Roblox Player does not accept that virtual machine. Use a machine it starts on; a tool that hides the VM is not a fix.
  • Error 264. The same account is in the same game on another device; put an alt on the AFK machine.
  • "This game has enabled additional hardware security requirements" on a cloud phone. The game requires device checks that the cloud phone does not pass. Try another game or another kind of machine.
  • Roblox is closed in the morning. The computer slept, restarted for updates or lost power. Check the sleep setting from Option 1 and start Roblox again.

FAQ

Can you AFK in Roblox with your PC off? Not on that PC, because the Roblox app on it is your connection to the game. Another device has to keep Roblox open: a spare PC, a cloud phone, a cloud gaming PC or a virtual machine.

How do you AFK in Roblox without getting kicked? Roblox disconnects players who have been idle for at least 20 minutes, on every device, and a game can do it sooner. Checking in from a remote app and moving your character resets the timer; a machine that stays on does not change the rule.

Is anti-AFK allowed in Roblox? Roblox's rules do not name anti-AFK tools, but script-based ones need an executor, which Roblox treats as a modified client, and Roblox acts against automated play. Games can ban both kinds, and we don't recommend either.

Can I AFK on one account and play on another at the same time? Yes, with two accounts of your own on two devices, such as an alt on your AFK machine and your main account on your phone. The same account cannot join the same game on two devices at once (Error 264), and a rule break on one account can reach your others.

Can you get banned for being AFK in Roblox? Being AFK is not in Roblox's Community Standards or Terms; Roblox disconnects idle players after 20 minutes instead. Trouble comes from the setup: exploits, modified clients, automated play, account selling or a game's own rules.

Do cloud phones work for Roblox AFK? It depends on the service and the game. Roblox kicks players without creator permissions that it detects on an emulator, and each game decides how strict its device checks are. Test the exact game with a free trial before you pay.
