Location matters more for FiveM than for most games. GTA V roleplay depends on real-time voice chat, vehicle sync, and player interactions that all suffer from high latency. Here is how to pick the best European location for your FiveM server.
Why location matters for FiveM
FiveM uses OneSync to synchronize player positions, vehicle physics, and voice chat across the server. Every millisecond of latency adds to desync, meaning players see each other in slightly different positions. At 50ms+ latency, vehicle chases and close-range interactions feel broken.
Voice chat (pma-voice or Mumble) is especially sensitive. Audio delay above 30ms makes conversations feel unnatural and frustrating for roleplay.
Netherlands: the best all-around choice
The Netherlands sits at the center of European internet infrastructure. Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) is one of the world's largest peering points, giving Dutch datacenters direct routes to most European ISPs.
Typical ping from the Netherlands:
- UK: 8-15ms
- Germany: 5-12ms
- France: 10-18ms
- Scandinavia: 15-25ms
- Spain/Italy: 20-35ms
- Poland/Eastern Europe: 18-30ms
For a server with players across Western and Central Europe, the Netherlands gives the lowest average latency.
Germany
Germany is the second most popular choice. Frankfurt has excellent connectivity, with latency similar to the Netherlands for Central European players but slightly higher for UK and Scandinavian connections.
France
Paris datacenters work well for French communities but add 5-10ms for UK and German players compared to the Netherlands.
UK
UK servers give the best ping to UK players (under 10ms) but add 15-25ms for Continental European players. Only choose UK if your community is primarily British.
The short answer
Host in the Netherlands for the best average latency across Europe. It gives under 15ms to the UK, under 12ms to Germany, and competitive ping to Scandinavia and Southern Europe.
Space-Node runs FiveM servers in Hengelo, Netherlands with game-grade DDoS protection and sub-15ms latency to most of Europe. See our FiveM hosting plans.
