Valheim 1.0 came out on 9 September 2026 and changed what a good Valheim host looks like. The Deep North biome arrived, worlds are now saved as folders split into chunks, and PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 joined the game with crossplay across every platform (Iron Gate's 1.0 announcement). A group that rented a server in 2024 is now asking different questions: does my Switch friend get in, how much RAM does a full Deep North world need, and why does the same server cost more in Sydney?
We host Valheim ourselves, so read this with that in mind. Every competitor price below was taken from the provider's own Valheim page on 17 October 2026, with a link, so you can check it. Hosts change prices often.
What actually matters for a Valheim server
Crossplay or Steam only. The dedicated server has two backends. Started with -crossplay, it runs on PlayFab and players on any platform can join, through a relay that does not need port forwarding. Without that flag it uses the Steam backend, and only Steam players can see and join it. That is straight from Iron Gate's dedicated server guide. If anyone in your group plays on Xbox, Game Pass, PS5 or Switch 2, you need a host that runs the server with crossplay.
RAM for your world, not for a slot count. Iron Gate publishes no RAM figure for the dedicated server; the 8 GB and 16 GB on Steam are for the game client. Hosts fill the gap with their own advice, from 2 GB up to 6 GB for a full group. Our experience: 4 GB is fine for two to four players on vanilla, 6 GB carries a full ten-player group, and big bases or a BepInEx modpack want 8 GB or more.
Ten players is the official limit. The 1.0 FAQ describes Valheim as a game for 1 to 10 players, and there is no launch option to raise it. A host selling 32 or 64 Valheim slots is counting on mods.
Mods are a PC thing. The 1.0 FAQ says there is no mod support on consoles. BepInEx and Thunderstore mods are for groups where everyone plays on PC.
Location. Valheim is cooperative, so a little latency is forgiving, but combat and building still feel better on a nearby server. Check whether a host charges extra for the location your group needs. Some do, a lot.

Space-Node
Five plans, all with NVMe storage, DDoS protection and BepInEx and Thunderstore mods through the file manager. VIKING has 4 GB RAM and 30 GB storage for €6.40 a month, WARRIOR 6 GB and 40 GB for €8.30, BERSERKER 8 GB and 50 GB for €10.20, JARL 12 GB and 70 GB for €15.80 and KONUNG 16 GB and 100 GB for €21.40. The lower two plans keep 2 backups, the upper three keep 3. Paying quarterly, half yearly or yearly takes 5, 10 or 15 percent off.
Servers run in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Canada, California, Virginia, Singapore, Mumbai and Sydney. The CPU is shared: Ryzen 9 3900X-class in Europe, Canada and India, Ryzen 9 7950X3D in the USA and Ryzen 9 5950X in Singapore and Sydney. USA plans cost a little more, from €6.80.
The honest catch: our Valheim servers accept Windows players on Steam only. Crossplay with Xbox, Game Pass, PS5 and Switch 2 is not available on them. If everyone in your group plays on Steam, no host in this list that states its RAM charges less per gigabyte. If one friend plays on a console, pick a host from the crossplay column. Our Valheim plans show the price for each location.
Nitrado
Nitrado sells Valheim by slots and runtime: 10 slots cost £3.00 for 3 days, £11.59 for 30 days or £31.14 for 90 days on the UK page, with subscription and prepaid options. RAM and storage are not stated. The page advertises crossplay for PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2. Valheim Plus and BepInEx are supported, but its FAQ says other mods are not. Locations include London, Frankfurt, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney and Singapore.
G-Portal
G-Portal also rents by slots and period: 10 slots for €13.70 per 30 days in Frankfurt and London, €36.99 for 90 days, and a 3 day option from €5.48. It is prepaid, without contracts. Crossplay across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch is advertised, there is a separate product for PlayStation and Switch players at the same prices, and BepInEx and Thunderstore mods install from a search in the panel. RAM is not stated; the page mentions 50 GB of backup space for saves and configs.
ZAP-Hosting
ZAP-Hosting lists $8.85 a month for 10 slots with 2 GB of RAM, and recommends at least 4 GB. Extra RAM is $2.69 per GB per 30 days, so a 4 GB server comes to about $14.23 a month in Germany. Longer periods save 10 to 30 percent. Separate products cover BepInEx and Valheim Plus. The page does not mention crossplay. Note that the FAQ on the same page still quotes older euro prices.
Shockbyte
Shockbyte has three fixed plans: 3 GB for 4 players at $9.99, 4 GB for 7 players at $12.99 and 6 GB for 10 players at $16.99 a month. Quarterly billing takes 10 percent off and yearly 25 percent. It advertises full crossplay between PC, Xbox, PS5 and Switch 2, BepInEx and ValheimPlus, and a self-serve refund within 72 hours of payment. The page only says "Global Locations", so check the region list at checkout.
BisectHosting
BisectHosting prices by the gigabyte. Valheim starts at 2 GB for $5.99 a month, then 4 GB for $11.99, 6 GB for $17.99 and 12 GB for $35.99. Its plan picker suggests 2 GB for up to 4 players and 6 GB for up to 10. Crossplay across all platforms is advertised, along with a modpack installer and BepInEx support. It lists 21 locations, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Sydney.
Host Havoc
Host Havoc sells one 10 slot plan at $9.99 a month, down to $8.79 a month on a yearly term, with high CPU priority as a $4.00 add-on. RAM is not stated; its FAQ suggests about 4 GB for 2 to 5 players. Crossplay with Steam, Xbox, PS5 and Switch 2 is advertised, BepInEx and Thunderstore mods install in one click, and there is a 72 hour satisfaction guarantee. Locations include Singapore and Sydney.
Valheim servers in Australia and Singapore
This is where the gap between hosts gets wide. On ZAP-Hosting's order form, Sydney and Singapore carry a 56 percent surcharge on top of the German price, which puts the 10 slot base at about $13.81 a month before extra RAM. G-Portal charges €15.20 per 30 days in Sydney and Singapore against €13.70 in Frankfurt.
We price Sydney and Singapore the same as Europe: €6.40 a month for 4 GB and €8.30 for 6 GB. Those servers run on a shared Ryzen 9 5950X with NVMe storage and DDoS protection. Mumbai is a separate location at the same price, for groups in India. For New Zealand the nearest of our locations is Sydney; for Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines it is Singapore.
Same rule as above: if your Australian group includes a PS5 or Switch 2 player, you need a crossplay host, and you will pay their Sydney price for it.
UK and Ireland groups
We have no server in the UK. For UK and Irish groups our nearest locations are the Netherlands and Germany. If you want a London machine, Nitrado, G-Portal and BisectHosting list London, and ZAP-Hosting does too with the same 56 percent location surcharge as Sydney.
How to pick in two minutes
- Everyone on Steam and on PC: compare RAM per euro. Start at 4 GB for a small group, 6 GB for ten players, 8 GB or more with mods.
- Anyone on Xbox, Game Pass, PS5 or Switch 2: choose a host that runs crossplay, and accept that mods stay off for those players anyway.
- Playing from Australia, New Zealand or Southeast Asia: open the order form with your location selected before you compare, because surcharges only show up there.
- Moving an existing world: since 1.0 a world is a folder, so copy the whole world folder from the old server, not a single file. Our Valheim 1.0 server guide explains what changed.
FAQ
Which Valheim host is cheapest? For a Steam only group, Space-Node has the lowest price per gigabyte of RAM among the hosts here that state their RAM: 4 GB for €6.40 a month, in Sydney and Singapore too. For crossplay groups, BisectHosting's 2 GB plan at $5.99 is the lowest monthly entry price we found, though 2 GB is tight for a full group.
Can PS5 and Switch 2 players join a dedicated Valheim server?
Yes, when the server runs with the -crossplay option on the PlayFab backend. Space-Node servers run on the Steam backend, so console players cannot join them.
How much RAM does a Valheim 1.0 server need? There is no official number. 4 GB for a small vanilla group, 6 GB for ten players and 8 GB or more for large bases or mods is a safe guide.
Can a Valheim server hold more than 10 players? Not without mods. Iron Gate describes Valheim 1.0 as a game for 1 to 10 players and has no launch option to raise the limit.
Do I pay more for a Sydney or Singapore server? At some hosts, yes. ZAP-Hosting adds 56 percent and G-Portal charges €15.20 instead of €13.70 per 30 days. At Space-Node the price is the same as in Europe.
