The distances come from KeenGamer's Valheim 1.0 seed round-up of 10 September 2026, which says the seeds were measured on 1.0 world generation. We have not played each of these worlds through ourselves, so treat the numbers as theirs and give every seed a quick look in a map viewer before you commit to it.
Older favourites that still get shared
Some seeds have been passed around since early access and still show up on seed lists. The descriptions below come from the Valheim wiki's World seed page and PCGamesN's seed list, and they were written for older versions of the game. Valheim's world generation has changed between big updates, so check these with the world version set to 1.0 before you trust them.

Which pick suits your group
Playing solo, you want a compact start, so 1k7md8 or 1j5e85 make sense: less sailing on your own and a gentle first area. A group of four or more can take a seed like vaoxsr, where the bosses are spread over a few kilometres, because different people can go out gathering at the same time. If your server wants to reach the Deep North quickly once the early bosses are down, 18mang was picked for exactly that.
Whichever you choose, keep in mind that Iron Gate still recommends a fresh world for 1.0. An older world does get the new content, but according to Iron Gate's 1.0 FAQ the new biome generation only works properly in areas nobody has explored yet.

Running a shared seed on a server
A dedicated server cannot be given a seed directly. It makes a random one for any world name it does not know. So create the world with your chosen seed in single player first and load into it once so the game saves it. Since 1.0 the world is saved as a folder named after the world. Upload that whole folder to the server's worlds folder (an older .fwl and .db pair also works, the server converts it on first load), set the server's world name to the name of that world (not the seed), and restart. If the names do not match, the server makes a new world with a random seed instead. A 4 GB server handles a small group comfortably.
Found a seed you like? Run this seed on a dedicated server so the world stays online when you log off. Space-Node Valheim servers accept Windows (Steam) players only, so everyone in the group needs the Steam version on Windows.
