If you just want a seed to paste in tonight, start with the table below. These are seeds shared for Valheim 1.0, sorted by what they are good for, with the layout that was reported for each. A good Valheim seed puts the early biomes, the first boss altars and Haldor close to spawn, so you spend your first evenings building and fighting instead of sailing.

The distances come from KeenGamer's Valheim 1.0 seed round-up of 10 September 2026, which says the seeds were generated and measured against Valheim 1.0 world generation, counted from the Sacrificial Stones where you spawn rather than along the route you would walk or sail. We have not played each of these worlds through ourselves, so treat the numbers as theirs and give every seed a quick look in a map viewer before you commit to it.
One thing to know about the Haldor distances: according to the Valheim Wiki, a world has 10 possible spots for Haldor in Black Forest, and he settles at the first one anyone approaches. A short Haldor distance only helps if you head for that spot before you wander near another one.
Older favourites that still get shared
Some seeds have been passed around since early access and still show up on seed lists. The descriptions below come from the Valheim wiki's World seed page and PCGamesN's seed list, and the wiki's notes date from early access (it lists kpI0aXHSfz as current as of update 0.154.1). The wiki also says a seed gives the same layout only on the same game version, and world generation has changed between big updates, so look at these in a map viewer on its newest world version before you trust them.

Which pick suits your group
Playing solo, you want a compact start, so 1k7md8 or 1j5e85 make sense: less sailing on your own and a gentle first area. A group of four or more can take a seed like vaoxsr, where the bosses are spread over a few kilometres, because different people can go out gathering at the same time. If your server wants to reach the Deep North quickly once the early bosses are down, 18mang was picked for exactly that.
Whichever you choose, keep in mind that Iron Gate still recommends a fresh world for 1.0. An older world does get the new content, but according to Iron Gate's 1.0 FAQ the new biome generation only works properly in areas nobody has explored yet.
Check a seed before you commit
A seed table only tells you so much. Paste the seed into the free valheim-map.world viewer and leave World Version on the newest option, which is the default. On 31 October 2026 that option is 1.0.7, and it covers every world made since the 1.0 release, even though the game itself is already on patch 1.0.21. The setting asks for the version a world was created on, not the patch you play. The map then shows where the biomes, boss altars, crypts and Haldor's possible spots land. How to use a seed
- Click New World on the world screen
- Type a world name, then replace the random seed in the Seed field with yours, copied exactly
- Set any world modifiers you want, then start the world
Running a shared seed on a server
A dedicated server cannot be given a seed directly. It makes a random one for any world name it does not know. So create the world with your chosen seed in single player first and load into it once so the game saves it. Since 1.0 the world is saved as a folder named after the world. Upload that whole folder to the server's worlds folder (an older .fwl and .db pair also works, the server converts it on first load), set the server's world name to the name of that world (not the seed), and restart. If the names do not match, the server makes a new world with a random seed instead. A 4 GB server handles a small group comfortably.
Found a seed you like? Run this seed on a dedicated server so the world stays online when you log off. Space-Node Valheim servers accept Windows (Steam) players only, so everyone in the group needs the Steam version on Windows.
