You found a farm, a storage system or a house you want to build, and now you need the file for Litematica. A search for "litematica schematics" turns up sharing sites, stores, in-game downloaders and the odd download button that hands you something you should never open. This guide covers the sources we could check on 31 October 2026, the file types Litematica reads, how to see a file's Minecraft version and mod needs before you load it, and how to share a build on a server. It was checked against Litematica 26.3-0.29.1 with MaLiLib 26.3-0.30.2, the current builds for Minecraft 26.3. New to the mod? Start with our Litematica setup guide.
Quick answer: For free Litematica schematics, use the sites made for sharing them: Choculaterie and MCodex, which the LitematicDownloader mod searches from inside the game together with MineMev and RedenMC, and the Storage Catalog for technical builds, with a version label on every file. Abfielder's schematics are sold in a store. Litematica opens .litematic, .schem, .schematic and .nbt files. Put the file in the schematics folder of the game folder you launch, press M, click Load Schematics and select the file once: the panel shows its Minecraft version before you load anything. A schematic is data, never a program, so delete any .jar or .exe that a schematic site gives you.
Where to Download Litematica Schematics
We describe each source only by what its own pages showed on 31 October 2026. For a build from a video, take the file from the creator's own link in the description, not a copy elsewhere.
Choculaterie and MCodex: Sharing Sites
Choculaterie says you can "browse, download and share Minecraft schematics" there, and MCodex calls itself "a community-driven platform where users can upload, discover, and download Minecraft schematics and builds". Players upload the files, so read each description for the Minecraft version and any mods before you download.
LitematicDownloader: Search From Inside Minecraft
LitematicDownloader is a client-side Fabric mod (MIT licence, source on GitHub). Its Modrinth page says it lets you search and download schematics "directly from" choculaterie.com, minemev.com, mcodex.org and redenmc.com within Minecraft. Version 1.2.3 for 26.3 (14 October 2026) needs Fabric API and Vanilib, a library from the same team.
Storage Catalog: Technical Builds With Version Labels
The Storage Catalog describes itself as "a community-maintained hub for storage tech in Minecraft Java Edition". Designs are reviewed by the community, and every entry lists its files with a Minecraft version and size. The Yams v2.3 storage system, for example, offers a .litematic labelled 1.21.11 for a build of 208 by 74 by 176 blocks, next to world downloads. The data is mirrored on GitHub, which held 327 .litematic files on 31 October 2026 and asks you to credit the creators of what you use.
To browse it in game, install Archive Downloader, formerly ST2-Downloader (1.0.24 for 26.3, needs Fabric API). It opens with N, or through an Archive Browser button it adds to the Litematica menu. Its page says it loads a downloaded .litematic as a placement for you and unzips world downloads into your saves folder.
Abfielder Schematics: A Paid Store
Abfielder sells "Premium Minecraft schematics & builds" through a store where the download follows checkout. Its FAQ says "Most products on Abfielder are designed for Minecraft Java Edition only", lists .schem and .litematic files, and says you need "either the WorldEdit or Litematica Minecraft Java mods installed (unless otherwise stated)". You may change a build for personal use once it is in your world, but not reupload, resell or redistribute the files.
GrabCraft: Layer Plans, No Files
GrabCraft "currently keeps more than 6000 objects", 3,018 of them in its Houses category, each with a list of the blocks you need and a blueprint you can follow layer by layer. The build page we opened offered no schematic file, so it suits building by hand.
Make Your Own From a World Download
Some builds only come as a world download. Open the world in single player and hold the tool item (a stick by default). Hold Ctrl and scroll until the tool mode reads Area Selection, then left click one corner of the build and right click the opposite corner. Open the Area Editor with Numpad * (multiply) and click Save Schematic.
Which File Formats Litematica Opens
Litematica 26.3 recognises four schematic file types:
| Extension | Format | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| .litematic | Litematica's own | Format version 7 since the builds for 1.20.6; Litematica for 1.20.4 and older reads versions up to 6 |
| .schem | Sponge schematic, WorldEdit's format since WorldEdit 7 | Loads directly |
| .schematic | Older Schematica and MCEdit format | Stores no Minecraft version |
| .nbt | Vanilla structure file | Loads directly |
The load list shows only these four types (and Litematica's own material lists), so unpack a .zip first; Bedrock .mcstructure files never appear. The other three formats load too, but Litematica warns that "the created placements won't be persistent" and that a large file converts again every time you load it. Its advice: open the Schematic Manager, select the file and click Import to save it as a .litematic.
Check the Minecraft Version and Mods Before You Load It
Start on the download page: a good listing names the Minecraft version and every mod. Then let Litematica read the file before you place it.
Press M, click Load Schematics and click the file once. The panel on the right shows the name, author, size, format version and the Minecraft version with its data version, for example Minecraft: 1.21.10 [Schema 4556]. That last line turns red when the file is more than 100 data versions newer than your game. The Material List button on the same screen counts the blocks without creating a placement.
What happens on loading depends on the gap:
- Older file, newer game. Litematica runs Minecraft's own data fixer over the blocks first (the
datafixerModesetting, Always by default), so a schematic saved in 1.21.11 opens in 26.3. Whether a farm still works after game changes is another matter. - Newer file, older game. Blocks that your version does not have load as air, and a .litematic more than 100 data versions ahead also shows "Schematic is from a future version of Minecraft" on loading.
- Format 7 in an old Litematica. Builds for 1.20.4 and older answer "Unsupported or future schematic version '7'". The sender can export an older copy (see below).
- A mod you do not have. There is no warning at all: Litematica reads blocks it does not know as air, so the build just has holes.
The Minecraft Wiki lists these data versions:
| Minecraft | Data version |
|---|---|
| 26.3 | 5023 |
| 26.2 | 4903 |
| 26.1.2 | 4790 |
| 1.21.11 | 4671 |
| 1.21.10 | 4556 |
| 1.21.4 | 4189 |
| 1.21.1 | 3955 |
| 1.20.1 | 3465 |
Check the Mods Without Starting the Game
Because missing mod blocks fail silently, the block list inside the file is the only sure check. Every block ID starts with a namespace: minecraft: for the game, a mod's own prefix such as create: for a mod. This script for any current Python 3, with nothing to install, prints a schematic's data version and every namespace in it, for all four formats.
# schemcheck.py: shows a schematic's data version and the mods its blocks come from
import gzip, re, struct, sys
NUMBERS = {1: '>b', 2: '>h', 3: '>i', 4: '>q', 5: '>f', 6: '>d'}
ARRAYS = {7: 1, 11: 4, 12: 8} # bytes per entry; the block data itself is skipped
def read(f, kind):
if kind in NUMBERS:
return struct.unpack(NUMBERS[kind], f.read(struct.calcsize(NUMBERS[kind])))[0]
if kind == 8:
return f.read(read(f, 2) & 0xFFFF).decode('utf-8', 'replace')
if kind in ARRAYS:
f.read(read(f, 3) * ARRAYS[kind])
return None
if kind == 9:
item, count = read(f, 1), read(f, 3)
return [read(f, item) for _ in range(count)]
tags = {}
while True:
item = read(f, 1)
if item == 0:
return tags
name = read(f, 8)
tags[name] = read(f, item)
BLOCK_ID = re.compile(r'([a-z0-9_.-]+):[a-z0-9_./-]+')
versions, mods = set(), {}
def walk(node):
if isinstance(node, list):
for value in node:
walk(value)
if not isinstance(node, dict):
return
for key, value in node.items():
if key in ('MinecraftDataVersion', 'DataVersion') and isinstance(value, int):
versions.add(value)
names = [value] if key in ('Name', 'id') else []
if key == 'Palette' and isinstance(value, dict):
names = list(value)
for name in names:
match = BLOCK_ID.match(name) if isinstance(name, str) else None
if match:
mods.setdefault(match.group(1), set()).add(match.group(0))
if key not in ('Biomes', 'BiomePalette'):
walk(value)
with open(sys.argv[1], 'rb') as raw:
packed = raw.read(2) == b'\x1f\x8b'
with (gzip.open if packed else open)(sys.argv[1], 'rb') as f:
kind = read(f, 1)
read(f, 8)
walk(read(f, kind))
print('Data version:', ', '.join(map(str, sorted(versions))) or 'none (old .schematic format)')
for space in sorted(mods, key=lambda s: (s != 'minecraft', s)):
note = '' if space == 'minecraft' else ' <- needs the mod with this namespace'
print(f'{space}: {len(mods[space])} different IDs{note}')
Save it as schemcheck.py and run it on the file. On macOS or Linux:
python3 schemcheck.py ~/Downloads/farm.litematic
On Windows, the Python install manager adds the py command:
py schemcheck.py "C:\Users\YourName\Downloads\farm.litematic"
For a structure file from the Create mod's own repository, it prints:
Data version: 2230
minecraft: 3 different IDs
create: 2 different IDs <- needs the mod with this namespace
Old .schematic files mostly store block numbers instead of names, so for those the script shows little more than the missing data version.
Download Safely: A Schematic Is Never a Program
A .litematic, .schem, .schematic or .nbt file is compressed block data that Litematica reads; there is nothing in it to run. So:
- If a "schematic" download turns out to be a .jar, .exe, .bat or .msi file, delete it. Turn on file name extensions so a name like
house.litematic.execannot hide: in File Explorer on Windows 11, select View > Show > File name extensions. On Windows 10, tick File name extensions in the Show/hide group of the View tab. - A .zip should hold schematic files or a world folder, and nothing you would have to start.
- Get mods, Litematica included, only from Modrinth or CurseForge. Fabric's own docs say these sites "check that the mods are what they say they are, and that they do not contain malicious code", and warn that many other sites offering mods are malware sites. Malware has travelled inside mod jars before: fractureiser, found in June 2023, was embedded in mods uploaded to CurseForge and BukkitDev. Our guide on whether Modrinth is safe explains how its checks work.
- Follow each creator's terms: the Storage Catalog asks for credit, and Abfielder forbids reuploads.
Where the Schematics Folder Is and How to Load a Schematic
Litematica reads schematics from a schematics folder inside the game folder, and creates that folder when it is missing. With the official launcher, that is:
- Windows:
%appdata%\.minecraft\schematics - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/schematics - Linux:
~/.minecraft/schematics
Launchers with instances, such as Prism Launcher, give every instance its own game folder. To find the one you actually play, start the game and open Options, Resource Packs..., Open Pack Folder. That opens the resourcepacks folder inside your game folder, and schematics belongs next to it. To share one folder between instances, turn on customSchematicBaseDirectoryEnabled in the Generic tab of Litematica's Configuration menu and enter the path in customSchematicBaseDirectory.
To load the file, press M, click Load Schematics, select it and click Load Schematic. With Create a placement ticked (the default), Litematica puts the placement at your position right away. Our paste guide covers moving, rotating and pasting it.
Share a Schematic on a Multiplayer Server
Litematica runs on each player's own computer. The server does not need it for the ghost preview, but everyone who follows the build needs the file in their own schematics folder, so send the file itself. Files stay small: the Yams .litematic for that 208 by 74 by 176 build is 193 KB.
For a friend on Litematica for 1.20.4 or older, select the file in the Schematic Manager and click the Export as button: its default export type, V6 (1.20.4) Litematic, saves a copy in the older format.
On a Fabric server, Syncmatica (0.3.20 for 26.3) saves you the file passing. It goes on the server and on every client that wants it, and adds buttons to share your placements with the server and to download the ones others shared. Its own page warns that it "gives its users a lot of power", so add it only where you trust the players.
Pasting a whole build at once needs creative mode. Without Servux, Litematica pastes on a server by sending /setblock and /fill commands, so you need permission for those. On a server with Servux (0.12.2 for 26.3), turn on entityDataSync under Generic (pasteUsingServux is already on) and Servux pastes on the server side, which Litematica calls much faster, with entity data restored. Servux's permission_level_paste setting, 0 by default, decides who may paste. The paste guide shows how to bind the paste key, which has no default.
If you downloaded a .schem, WorldEdit on the server can paste it without Litematica. Upload it to plugins/WorldEdit/schematics on Paper or config/worldedit/schematics on other platforms such as Fabric and NeoForge, then run //schem load <filename> and //paste. WorldEdit's docs list its .schem format and the old .schematic, not .litematic. Our WorldEdit guide lists the commands. On a Space-Node Minecraft server, Fabric is a one-click install in the Pterodactyl panel, the file manager or SFTP takes your uploads, and sub-users give your builders their own login with scoped permissions.
FAQ
Where can I download free Litematica schematics? Choculaterie and MCodex are sharing sites for schematics, and the LitematicDownloader mod searches them, MineMev and RedenMC from inside the game. For technical builds, the Storage Catalog labels every file with its Minecraft version and mirrors its archive on GitHub.
Can Litematica use .schem files? Yes. Litematica 26.3 loads .schem, .schematic and .nbt files as well as .litematic. Import them through the Schematic Manager to save them as .litematic, because placements made from the other formats are not kept.
Why are blocks missing after I load a schematic? Litematica reads blocks it does not know as air. Either the file was saved in a newer Minecraft version with blocks yours lacks, or it uses blocks from a mod you have not installed. The version line on the load screen and the script above tell you which.
Where do I put Litematica schematics?
In the schematics folder of the game folder you launch, such as %appdata%\.minecraft\schematics on Windows. With a launcher that uses instances, open Options, Resource Packs..., Open Pack Folder and go up one folder.
Where can I find Litematica house schematics? Search the sharing sites above for "house" and check each file's version. GrabCraft's Houses category had 3,018 entries, but as layer plans to build by hand, not as files to load.
Are Abfielder schematics free? The store sells them: the download comes after checkout, and its FAQ does not mention free builds.
