Geyser and Floodgate Hosting for Java and Bedrock Minecraft 2026

Geyser lets Bedrock players join a Java server, and Floodgate lets them do it without buying Java Edition. Both are free plugins. Whether they work on your server mostly comes down to what your host lets you do with ports and files.

What a host has to give you

A UDP port that reaches your server. Bedrock connects over UDP. The Geyser setup page puts it simply: "Since Minecraft: Bedrock Edition uses UDP, this port must allow UDP traffic." You need either the Java port on UDP as well, so clone-remote-port works, or a second port you can assign to Geyser.

Control over the Geyser config. You set port, clone-remote-port and auth-type yourself. A host that hides the plugin folder or the config files makes Geyser guesswork.

Room for more than one extra port. Geyser, Simple Voice Chat and the server query all use UDP, and the Geyser docs state that voice chat and query "cannot share the port with Geyser". A cross-play server with voice chat easily needs a port for Java, one for voice, and possibly one for Bedrock.

Server-side mods only. This is not about the host, but it decides whether Geyser fits your server at all. The Geyser docs: "Geyser only works with server-side mods. Mods that require a client-side install will not work!"

How it works on Space-Node

On a Space-Node Minecraft server:

• You get a Pterodactyl panel with a file manager and SFTP, so you upload Geyser and Floodgate and edit their configs yourself.
• For the Bedrock port you pick one of two free options. Set clone-remote-port: true and Bedrock players use the same port number as Java. Or open the Network tab, click Create Allocation, and set that port as port under bedrock in the Geyser config.
• Extra ports cost nothing. Your plan includes three allocations, which covers Java, voice chat and Geyser on its own port. If you need more, ask in live chat and we can raise it to five.
• You test from the console with geyser connectiontest <ip> <port>.

The problem nobody warns you about

Geyser makes crossplay possible, but it adds a layer you have to debug. Bedrock ports, Floodgate authentication, skins, forms and plugin compatibility confuse owners who expect everything to behave like Java. Game rules come from the Java server, so Bedrock players get Java combat and Java redstone. And some things cannot be translated at all: the Geyser wiki lists clickable chat links and telling left and right clicks apart in inventories, among others.

What to avoid

Do not assume every Java plugin will feel right for Bedrock players. Test menus, combat, resource packs and commands with a real Bedrock client before you advertise full crossplay. Console players need extra steps too, because Xbox, PlayStation and Switch have no Add Server button.

Do not put voice chat on the Geyser port, and do not leave the query on it. Two UDP services on one port is an easy mistake to avoid.

Picking a location

Geyser runs wherever your Java server runs. Pick the location closest to most of your players. The plan selector on the Minecraft hosting page measures the ping from your own browser to each Space-Node location before you order. Ask a friend on the other side of your group to check too.
