Enshrouded Skill Tree, Classes and Character Builds in 1.0

The Enshrouded 1.0 skill tree from Keen's own notes: warrior, ranger and mage paths, the new 1.0 skills, the respec cost and the server XP settings for groups.

Enshrouded key art with three adventurers in front of a waterfall

You started Enshrouded 1.0 with a stack of unspent skill points and a tree that looks different, and you want to know which path fits the way you fight. This guide is about character builds: skill points, classes and paths through the skill tree, not base building.

Quick answer: Enshrouded has no fixed class. You spend skill points in one shared skill tree that Keen Games organizes around three combat classes (warrior, ranger and mage), with sub-trees inside them and shared skills such as Double Jump in the center. Points come from levels, capped at 50 in 1.0, and from Shroud Roots, and most skills can be upgraded with extra points. Enshrouded builds follow a weapon: melee warrior or tank, archer, dagger assassin, mage with spells and wand, or summoner. You respec at a Flame Altar for 1 rune per spent skill point, Keen's last published price. On a dedicated server, three settings in enshrouded_server.json set how fast everyone earns XP.

Keen has never published a full map of the 1.0 tree with every node and value, so this guide uses only Keen's patch notes, Steam posts and help center, checked on 3 November 2026 up to Patch #1 (1.0.1.0) from 2 November, and describes the paths at branch level where Keen gives no values. Read exact numbers in your own tree: Update 8 (April 2026) and 1.0 both rebalanced skills, so older tier lists are often out of date.

How the Enshrouded skill tree works in 1.0

You never pick a class. Keen's Steam page names an "armored juggernaut, deadly ranger, devastating battlemage" as examples and says you can "blend them into a playstyle entirely your own".

Skill points. You earn them by leveling up and by destroying Shroud Roots. 1.0 raised the level cap to 50 and added 18 Shroud Roots: 12 in the new Cinder's Cradle and 6 in new areas at the edges of the world. They count per character: Keen's FAQ says you "cannot farm Shroud roots by making new worlds". Our Enshrouded map guide covers their regions.

Skill upgrades. Since Update 8, more than 80 skills take extra points after you learn them, and first levels cost fewer points, so you reach the outer branches sooner. The trade-off, in Keen's words: first levels are "slightly weaker than the previous version", fully upgraded skills "in most cases, as strong or sometimes even stronger than before". Some equipment perks raise a skill past what points alone allow. So every build chooses between many skills at their first level and fewer skills fully upgraded.

The center. Update 8 added "more paths between classes" and moved Double Jump to the center "to make it easily accessible for every combat class". 1.0 added Airborne Architect there too.

Enshrouded classes and the parts of the tree Keen names

Keen's gear and crafting follow the three combat classes:

ClassWeaponsArmor since Update 8Upgrades your gear
WarriorMelee weapons: one-handed, two-handed and greatswordsThe most physical armor of all classesThe Blacksmith
RangerBows and daggersEqual physical and magical armorThe Huntress
MageStaffs with spells, and wandsThe most magical armor of all classesThe Alchemist

Keen has never listed every branch of the tree, but its patch notes name these parts:

  • The warrior area, with what Keen called the "Warrior Tank sub-tree" in July 2024.
  • The assassin tree. In 1.0 Keen "moved dagger-related skills from the warrior area of the skill tree to the assassin tree, where it makes much more sense." Daggers belong to the ranger side: Keen calls them a dexterity-based weapon "complementary to the ranged gameplay".
  • The Beastmaster sub-tree. Keen added two dagger poison skills and a dagger blocking skill here in July 2024.
  • The Battlemage and Trickster sub-trees. In July 2024 the Battlemage sub-tree held wand skills such as Eternal Spark, and Keen moved Bloodletting and Blood Magic, two spell and mana skills, to the Trickster sub-tree.

Update 8 later changed "the overall layout", so use the 2024 notes to find where a playstyle lives, not as exact node positions.

What changed in the skill tree with 1.0

Old characters got a free reset: "When playing for the first time in version 1.0.0.0 with an existing save game, the skill tree will be reset." The new skills, as Keen describes them in its 1.0 combat post and changelog:

SkillWhat Keen says it doesFits
Aerial Wand AttackMid-air area attack for wands; costs 40 mana instead of stamina since Patch #1Mage
Wand Evasion AttackWider, piercing projectiles; cheaper in mana since Patch #1Mage
Blast and CastAfter a critical strike with a wand, your next staff attack within 10 seconds has 50% more base damageMage
Advanced NecromancyMore summoned skeletonsMage, summoner
Totem MasteryMore summoned totemsMage, summoner
PunctureMore ranged piercing damage (Keen gave no number)Ranger
BarrageBow damage has a chance to restore 1 durability to the bowRanger
Survival InstinctDefeating a Shroud-infested enemy with a bow or dagger restores time in the ShroudRanger, assassin
Airborne ArchitectBuilding in a free-flying modeEveryone

Keen also moved Veteran, One-Handed Specialization, Inner Fires and Snap, and "reduced the costs and buffed the effects of many skills". Patch #1 fixed "that skills and attacks could stop working correctly after playing for several hours".

Enshrouded builds: five paths through the tree

These are paths, not a tier list: each follows a weapon and the skills and gear Keen built around it. Learn the first levels of the skills your weapon uses in every fight, then upgrade those before you spread out.

Melee warrior or tank

Since Update 8 every melee weapon has a heavy attack (hold the button) that does double damage to the enemy and its stun bar. Most weapons also have a special ability, learned with one skill per weapon type and fired from a "focus" bar your attacks fill; take the one for your main weapon early. Whirlwind Crescendo adds a whirl at the end of a two-handed chain (cheaper in stamina since Patch #1), Titan Edge raises greatsword damage, and Kick, an attack out of a block, interrupts enemy spellcasting.

For a tank, Update 8 let armor absorb up to 80% of incoming damage instead of 60% and added several skills that raise maximum health. Attention skills such as Nemesis have worked "much more reliably" in multiplayer since then, and since 1.0 stamina recovers while you block.

Archer

Bows got Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct in 1.0, and Keen rebalanced arrow costs and effectiveness to "provide better options for rangers". Eternal arrows now take perks like weapons, and the Huntress upgrades them. New aim assist options are on by default for controllers and off for mouse and keyboard.

Dagger assassin

Daggers are the ranger's melee option, and since 1.0 their skills sit in the assassin tree. 1.0 added a craftable dagger set to the Revelwood and Nomad Highlands tiers, and the Assassin, Frostbite Slasher and Blood Feather sets now upgrade with a melee critical hit chance perk instead of sneak attack damage. Strategic Maneuver fits here: with it you dodge behind an enemy you have locked in melee range; without it, dodges go in a straight line. Survival Instinct works with daggers and bows, so the two mix well.

Mage and battlemage

Mages were "the biggest combat focus" of 1.0, in Keen's words. There are nine new spells: Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning, three totems (fire, ice and shock) and Summon Hollow Skeleton. Every spell now has an Eternal version that uses no charges, and the Alchemist upgrades those with perks. Wands got a heavy attack that pierces enemies, plus the Aerial Wand Attack and Wand Evasion Attack skills. Blast and Cast is the battlemage glue: land wand crits, then switch to the staff for a harder spell.

Summoner

Summon Hollow Skeleton and the three totems are new in 1.0, and Advanced Necromancy and Totem Mastery raise how many you can keep. Gems of Necromancy on weapons raise more undead, but the Gem of Lesser Necromancy now has a limit and gem companions lose health after a while out of combat. Keen says a skeleton's main role "isn't necessarily to deal a lot of damage", so bring your own damage spell or weapon.

Picks for every build

Double Jump sits in the center for everyone. Inner Fires gives more time in the Shroud, Keen's help center says, but 1.0 cut the effect of stacking several Shroud time bonuses. Airborne Architect is for builders; since Patch #1, taking damage cancels its flying mode.

How to respec in Enshrouded

  • Where: at a Flame Altar. In November 2025 Keen wrote: "Brief reminder that you can respec your skills at the nearest Altar".
  • Cost: since the Souls of the Frozen Frontier update in November 2024, "Each spent skill point costs 1 rune", and the game takes runes from magical chests too. Because the price follows the points you spent, a respec is cheap at level 10 and expensive at level 50.
  • One skill at a time: since Pact of the Flame in January 2025, skills can be reset individually in the tree. Keen did not give a separate price for that.
  • Still current? No later Keen note, up to Patch #1, mentions a new price. Check the cost the game shows before you confirm. No server setting changes it either: Keen's rune settings cover weapon upgrades and salvage only.

What a dedicated server changes for your build

Characters do not live on the server. Keen's Dedicated Server FAQ says "Character progression is stored only on clients", so the server holds the world and each player's PC holds their level, skills and Shroud Roots. A server owner cannot reset or edit someone's skills, and Keen's FAQ says a character keeps its equipment, inventory, levels and skills on other servers.

What you can change is how fast the group earns XP. Keen's Server Gameplay Settings article lists three factors under gameSettings:

SettingXP fromDefaultRange
experienceCombatFactorCombat10.25 to 2
experienceMiningFactorMining resources10 to 2
experienceExplorationQuestsFactorExploring and quests10.25 to 2

They only apply with "gameSettingsPreset": "Custom". Stop the server, set the preset to Custom, then change the existing lines in the gameSettings block, for example to a 50% bonus on combat and exploration XP:

"experienceCombatFactor": 1.5,
"experienceMiningFactor": 1,
"experienceExplorationQuestsFactor": 1.5,

Keen's article predates 1.0, so check that the file your 1.0 server wrote has these keys. Values outside the range are clamped, but invalid text stops the server from booting. Agree on XP as a group: levels earned at double speed stay with the character on every world. playerHealthFactor, playerManaFactor and playerStaminaFactor (0.25 to 4) also matter to builds, since they scale maximum health, mana and stamina on your world only. Our server settings guide covers every other key.

Patch #1 has a new dedicated server build too (26319703, live on Steam at 10:30 UTC on 2 November), so update the server to match your players' game; our 1.0 server update guide has the steps. Every plan on our Enshrouded server hosting includes full FTP access, so you can edit enshrouded_server.json yourself; make a backup in the panel first.

FAQ

What are the classes in Enshrouded? There is no fixed class. Keen's gear follows three combat classes, warrior, ranger and mage, and its notes name sub-trees such as Tank, Assassin, Beastmaster, Battlemage and Trickster. One character can take skills from all of them.

How much does a respec cost in Enshrouded? Keen's last published rule, from November 2024, is 1 rune per spent skill point, at a Flame Altar. Since January 2025 you can also reset single skills.

Is there an Enshrouded skill planner for 1.0? Keen has no official one. The open-source Enshrouded Skill Planner says it is "not affiliated with Keen Games" and shows its skill tree version in its settings. Check that it matches 1.0 before you trust a shared build.

What is the best build in Enshrouded? Keen has not ranked them. Pick the weapon you enjoy and follow its path. In a group, a mix of classes pays off: since Update 8 the end rooms of the Hollow Halls hold chests tailored to warrior, ranger and mage.

How do I build a battlemage in Enshrouded? Mix wand and staff: Blast and Cast turns a wand crit into a stronger next staff attack, and Aerial Wand Attack and Wand Evasion Attack add a mid-air and an evasive wand attack.
