A recipe in RuneScape: Dragonwilds asks for hard leather, fuel pellets or glass, and the crafting menu only names the station. The three belong to one chain: hard leather goes into the draconic leather that builds the blast furnace, fuel pellets keep that blast furnace burning, and molten glass comes out of it. Below is each one with its station, its inputs and where to find them, then the world settings that matter for a group.

Jagex's patch notes say little about these recipes, so the quantities come from the official Dragonwilds Wiki, which players write and maintain, and the changes over time from Jagex's notes on Steam. We checked both on 3 November 2026, after hotfix 1.0.1.2.

Quick answer: To make hard leather in Dragonwilds, put 2 leather and 1 adhesive, or 4 hard leather scraps, into a tannery with a tanner's kit built next to it. Fuel pellets are 1 charcoal, 1 adhesive and 1 coarse animal fur at the blacksmith's bench, and the recipe only appears once you have picked up coal and built a blast furnace. Dragonwilds glass starts as molten glass: 3 ground sandstone and 3 ground limestone in a blast furnace running on fuel pellets. You then turn it into panes, vessels or decorations at a jeweler's bench. Limestone only comes from Dowdun Reach, so glass waits until you have finished the Withering Heights quest.

How to make hard leather in Dragonwilds

A plain tannery only turns hides into leather. Hard leather needs a second input slot, and that comes from the tanner's kit, which you build and place next to the tannery. According to the wiki, every tannery needs its own kit, even when one kit stands between two tanneries.

There are two recipes, each worth 40 Artisan XP:

  • 2 leather + 1 adhesive. The early route, before you reach Fellhollow.
  • 4 hard leather scraps. Added with Fellhollow in update 0.10. Zombie Cows in Fellhollow always drop 1 to 3 scraps. They are power level 5, aggressive and weak to fire.

What each part takes:

  • Tannery: 12 ash logs, 4 animal bones and 2 coarse thread. It appears in the build menu after you pick up your first animal bone, and since patch 0.11.1 it no longer needs a roof.
  • Tanner's kit: 6 bronze bars, 8 coarse thread, 6 adhesive and 18 ash planks. Since update 0.11 your first bronze bar adds it to the build menu; before that, adhesive did.
  • Leather: 1 animal hide (from cows, deer and wolves) or 3 animal hide scraps (from rats, kebbits and chinchompas), processed in the tannery.
  • Adhesive: 1 swamp tar in the kiln makes 1 adhesive. You pick swamp tar up from the ground in the Whispering Swamp in Brynmoor. The kiln costs 8 ash logs, 20 stone, 6 clay and 10 fire runes, and becomes buildable once clay first lands in your inventory.
  • Coarse thread: 1 flax or 3 coarse animal fur at a spinning wheel.

Some enemies drop hard leather ready made. The wiki lists 5 from the Abyssal Demon, a power level 4 mini boss that wanders the Whispering Swamp, the Fractured Plains and the Bloodblight Swamp, and 4 to 8 from Zogres in Fellhollow and Dowdun Reach. Both have long respawn delays on the wiki (7 days for the demon, 8 for a Zogre), so treat them as a bonus, not a supply.

Hard leather goes into bronze armour, the hard leather set and several mage robes at the armour bench, and into draconic leather: 3 hard leather and 1 dragon blood at the tannery make 1, and the blast furnace needs 4. A dragonwolf hide or 4 draconic leather scraps also make one draconic leather.

The tannery is slow. The Overdrive spell, added in 1.0 at Artisan level 48, speeds up "mechanical-based processing stations", and the wiki counts the tannery and the grindstone among them. Superheat, at Artisan 20, does the same for fire stations such as the kiln and the blast furnace: 90% faster for 30 seconds, according to the wiki.

Fuel pellets in Dragonwilds: station and recipe

Fuel pellets are the fuel of the blast furnace, the station that smelts steel, mithril, adamant and rune bars and makes molten glass. One pellet costs 1 charcoal, 1 adhesive and 1 coarse animal fur, and since update 0.12 on 23 June 2026 you craft it at the blacksmith's bench.

If you made pellets before June 2026, look at the new bench: update 0.12 replaced the smithing anvil with specialised benches, as Jagex explained in Crafting Stations Are Changing, and its 0.12 known issues admitted that the fuel pellet journal entry "incorrectly states where you craft it". A guide that still sends you to the smithing anvil predates 0.12.

The recipe also stays hidden until two things have happened, according to the wiki: you have had coal in your inventory, and you have built a blast furnace. If it still does not show, mining a fresh piece of coal from a coal node may fix it. In order:

  1. Mine coal. Coal nodes are in Fellhollow, Dowdun Reach and Umbral Sands, need an iron pickaxe or better and give 2 to 3 coal each. Your first coal adds the blast furnace to the build menu.
  2. Build the blast furnace: 12 granite, 8 iron bars, 4 draconic leather, 10 fire runes and 2 vault cores. Keep the sky open above it, because it will not work under a roof.
  3. Build the blacksmith's bench if you have not yet: 6 bronze bars, 20 ash logs, 8 coarse thread and 1 vault core. Your first bronze bar adds it to the build menu.
  4. Craft pellets at the bench and load them into the blast furnace as fuel.

Where the inputs come from:

  • Charcoal: burn logs, blightwood or planks in the kiln. The wiki notes that milling logs into planks first doubles the charcoal you get.
  • Adhesive: the same swamp tar in the kiln as for hard leather, so one tar run feeds both.
  • Coarse animal fur: kebbits always drop 1, rats drop it too, and bird nests give 1 or 2.

Dragonwilds glass: molten glass first, then panes and vessels

Glass takes two steps: molten glass from 3 ground sandstone and 3 ground limestone in the blast furnace (60 Artisan XP, on the same fuel pellets as bars), then shaping at the jeweler's bench.

  • Ground sandstone: grind 1 sandstone at a grindstone for 5 ground sandstone. Sandstone rocks stand in the Fractured Plains and Stormtouched Highlands of Ghornfell, and in Dowdun Reach and Umbral Sands. They need a bone pickaxe or better and give 10 to 16 sandstone each.
  • Ground limestone: grind 1 limestone for 1 ground limestone. Limestone rocks are only in Dowdun Reach, in The Lake underneath the region and along the river in The Courtyard. You need a mithril pickaxe or better, each rock gives 1 or 2 limestone, and the wiki gives it a respawn of 3 days.
  • Grindstone: 18 stone, 12 oak logs, 6 iron bars and 12 granite, buildable after your first granite. It needs open sky too, and it is slow: the wiki advises filling it just before you sleep, which finishes the whole stack.

Limestone is the bottleneck. Ten molten glass take 30 limestone, which means 15 to 30 rocks, against only 6 sandstone. Dowdun Reach lies south of Silverthorn Keep in Fellhollow and opens through its gatehouse once you have completed Withering Heights, the second main story quest, in which you defeat Imaru. The Dragonwilds map guide shows where each region sits.

At the jeweler's bench (12 oak planks, 8 ground sandstone, 2 gold bars, 2 silver bars and 1 vault core, buildable after your first silver bar), 1 molten glass makes one of three things:

  • Glass pane: 2 panes and 4 stone blocks build a stained glass window wall or its narrow version.
  • Glass vessel: the bottle for potions at the brewing cauldron, from antipoison and antifire potions to the focused skill potions and demonic oil.
  • Glass decoration: an ornament for your base.

Older guides mention soda ash from swamp weed. The wiki marks soda ash as not in the game, and the molten glass recipe uses only sandstone and limestone.

World settings that change gathering for a group

The short version: no setting makes a rock, tree or monster drop more, but a Custom world can make crafting cheaper and stations faster.

Jagex added Custom World settings in update 0.9: "Over 40 settings are exposed, from damage, thirst, hunger, to XP rates and processing." You set them under Advanced when you create the world, and Jagex notes that you need a new "Custom World" character to play in such a world. The wiki's Custom Mode page lists these as the ones that matter for this grind:

SettingWhat it changesRange (default 1.0x)
Crafting Cost ScaleMaterial cost of crafted items0.5x to 3.0x
Processing Speed ScaleTime stations need to process materials0.5x to 3.0x
Inventory Carry Capacity ScaleMaximum inventory weight0.0x to 3.0x
Building Material Cost ScaleMaterial cost of building pieces0.0x to 3.0x

There is also a switch that gives everyone every crafting recipe from the start. The wiki's list has no slider for how much a node or monster drops, or how fast nodes come back.

Update 0.11.2 scaled Rune Essence for 5 and 6 players, with "20% more resources with 5 players, and a slightly reduced respawn time with 6 players", but we found no such line for hides, coal, sandstone or limestone in Jagex's notes. Since 1.0.1, enemies "stay dead for longer as you clear areas", so a patch of Zombie Cows stays empty for longer once your group has cleared it. Splitting the jobs works better: one player keeps the kiln superheated for adhesive and charcoal, one hunts Zombie Cows and kebbits, one mines limestone.

On a dedicated server, these settings come from the save file. Jagex's server guide says the server loads the newest .sav in RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames and creates a default Standard world if there is none. For Custom settings, create the world in your own game, enter it once, leave, and copy its .sav into that folder. The wiki says a Standard world's settings cannot be changed later, so make the Custom world before your group starts. On our Dragonwilds server hosting you upload that .sav in the panel with the same steps. For Jagex's server on your own Linux machine, the Docker and Pterodactyl guide walks through the setup.

FAQ

How do you make hard leather in Dragonwilds? At a tannery with a tanner's kit placed next to it: 2 leather and 1 adhesive, or 4 hard leather scraps from Zombie Cows in Fellhollow.

Why can't I make hard leather at my tannery? The tannery has no tanner's kit next to it, or two tanneries share one kit. The kit joins the build menu when your first bronze bar lands in your inventory.

Where do you craft fuel pellets in Dragonwilds? At the blacksmith's bench, since update 0.12 in June 2026. The recipe is 1 charcoal, 1 adhesive and 1 coarse animal fur. After that change, Jagex listed the journal entry naming the wrong station as a known issue.

Why don't I have the fuel pellet recipe? According to the wiki, it appears after you have had coal in your inventory and built a blast furnace. If it is still missing, mine a fresh piece of coal from a coal node.

How do you make glass in Dragonwilds, and do you need soda ash? Put 3 ground sandstone and 3 ground limestone into a blast furnace running on fuel pellets to get 1 molten glass, then make panes, vessels or decorations at a jeweler's bench. Soda ash is not part of it; the wiki marks it as not in the game.

Can a server setting make gathering faster for my group? Not the gathering itself. A Custom world can lower crafting costs, shorten processing and raise carry weight, but the wiki lists no slider for drops or respawns. A dedicated server takes these settings from an uploaded Custom world .sav.
