RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 is set on the continent of Ashenfall, and Jagex has added its regions one update at a time: Brynmoor and Ghornfell at the Early Access launch, Fellhollow, Dowdun Reach and Umbral Sands in the major updates after that, and the Scorned Wilderness, the raid zone for the final fight with Kuldra, in 1.0. You open the map with M on a keyboard or the View button on a controller, and it only shows what you have already discovered.
Below are the regions in the order you reach them, with what Jagex says each one holds, followed by how the map, markers and lodestones work. Region facts come from Jagex's own patch notes on Steam and the Dragonwilds site; the power levels, sub-areas and unlock quests come from the official Dragonwilds Wiki, which players write and maintain. We checked both on 25 October 2026.
The regions at a glance
| Region | Added | Power level | Main boss | How you get in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brynmoor | Early Access launch, April 2025 | 1 to 2 | Velgar rules it; you fight him in Ghornfell | The starting region |
| Ghornfell | Early Access launch, April 2025 | 3 to 4 | Velgar, the first Dragon General | North of Brynmoor |
| Fellhollow | 0.10, 15 December 2025 | 5 | Imaru the Revenant Dragon | North of Ghornfell, after the Dragon Slayer quest |
| Dowdun Reach | 0.11, 31 March 2026 | 6 | Black Knight Titan | Through Fellhollow, after Withering Heights |
| Umbral Sands | 0.12, 23 June 2026 | 7 | Fuzan the Dragon General, the Kalphite Queen | Defeat the Black Knight Titan to pass the gates |
| Scorned Wilderness | 1.0, 15 September 2026 | Raid; its materials make power level 8 gear | Kuldra, the God-Eater | Raid entrance in Ghornfell, during the Regicide quest |
A region's power level tells you what gear you need: most monsters in a region inherit its level, and your own power level comes from the armour you wear.
Brynmoor: where every world starts
Every new world starts in a ruined temple in the Temple Woods of Brynmoor, with the Wise Old Man, according to the wiki's guide for new players. The lodestone behind you there stays inactive until you build or discover your first lodestone. Brynmoor's other areas on the wiki are Bramblemead Valley and the Whispering Swamp.
Jagex launched Early Access in April 2025 with "the first Dragon General, Velgar, and the first two regions: Brynmoor and Ghornfell", as its 1.0 release post recalls. The wiki gives Brynmoor power level 1 to 2 and says General Velgar rules over it, though you fight him in Ghornfell.
Ghornfell: bronze, iron and the road to everything else
Ghornfell lies north of Brynmoor and is power level 3 to 4, the level the wiki gives bronze (3) and iron (4) gear. The wiki lists three areas, the Fractured Plains, the Bloodblight Swamp and the Stormtouched Highlands, and sums the region up as poison to the east and storms to the west. Velgar's lair, Velgar's Rise, is in the Fractured Plains. Ghornfell's Dire Wolves and Garou were toned down slightly at 1.0, in Jagex's words "to be marginally less terrifying, while you're trying to establish a foothold in the second area".
Ghornfell matters again at the end of the game: the wiki places the entrance to the Scorned Wilderness in the north-west of the Fractured Plains.
Fellhollow: Imaru, Death and the Castle Kit
Fellhollow arrived with update 0.10 on 15 December 2025. Jagex's release notes put it "to the north of Ghornfell" and say how to get in: "Speak to the Wise Old Man after completing 'Dragon Slayer' to enter the region and get started." The same notes added 11 new enemy types, new vaults, NPCs with new quests, and cleansing pools in the region that remove its debuff.
With Fellhollow came the Farming skill, the Castle building kit, Steel tier gear, a shop where Death trades Soul Fragments, the terrorbird mount and the second Dragon boss, Imaru the Revenant Dragon. The wiki gives Fellhollow power level 5 and lists its areas as the Forgotten Temple, Bleakfields Valley, the Lake of Lost Souls, Dragon's Run, Emberwood, the Witchwillow Range, Hope's Fall, Coalridge Pass and Silverthorn Keep.
Dowdun Reach: the Black Knights' fortress
Dowdun Reach came with update 0.11 on 31 March 2026, the same update that brought official dedicated servers. Jagex's preview describes it as an ancient fortress whose castle "blocks the pathway between the cursed lands of Fellhollow and the dunes of the Umbral Sands", with "an emphasis on exploration and combat in a more densely packed environment than any region before it". You face an ancient order of knights twisted by demonic influence and a fractured circle of mages, and the region's boss is the Black Knight Titan. The 0.11 notes added four quests: Black Knight's Fortress, Wanted!, Biohazard and What's Theirs Is Mine.
On the wiki, Dowdun Reach is a power level 6 mountainous region with mithril-tier gear, reached through a gatehouse south of Silverthorn Keep once you have completed Withering Heights. It is built from nine areas: The Approach, The Courtyard, The Nexus, The Library, The Grand Hall, The Garrison, The Pastures, The Menagerie and The Bastion. You can only build lodestones in four of them: The Approach, The Pastures, The Menagerie and The Courtyard.
Umbral Sands: the desert of Fuzan
Umbral Sands, a desert "inspired by the iconic deserts of mainland Gielinor", arrived with update 0.12 on 23 June 2026. The 0.12 notes tell you how to get there: "Fell the Black Knight Titan to pass beyond the gates and enter the Umbral Sands." The wiki puts the door in The Bastion of Dowdun Reach, after the Black Knight's Fortress quest.
What you find there, from Jagex's notes and preview:
- Scorch. Direct sunlight gives you Scorch, which drains Thirst and Hunger fast, so you travel from shade to shade by day. At night Fuzan, the Dragon General, attacks from above.
- Quicksand. Treacherous patches of sand that swallow anyone who missteps.
- The Fight Cave. At the base of Fuzan's Tower: waves of enemies, then the climb to fight Fuzan and earn a Fire Cape. It can be repeated for rare materials.
- The Kalphite Queen, Kalphites and the Kot'Haar, which Jagex describes as ancient elemental beings.
- The Nightmare Crucible, a boss-rush arena you unlock with Engrams found around the region.
- The Moon Garou and Icthlarin. Quests for the Moon Garou unlock the Magic Carpet mount, which carries you over the dunes and the quicksand.
- Materials. Adamantite ore and yew wood, for adamant gear, red dragonhide and Infinity Robes, plus three new vaults.
The wiki gives Umbral Sands power level 7 and names its areas: Alcarrid Oasis, where you find Icthlarin, the Dunes of Uzzer, the Manafem Plains and The Burning Spire.
Scorned Wilderness: the raid for Kuldra
Version 1.0 on 15 September 2026 added "the Scorned Wilderness region" and the quest Regicide. Jagex splits it into two parts: "The Hub", where you can build, and the Raid area, "which does not permit building, because of the big dragon". At the end waits the new end-game boss, Kuldra, the God-Eater. Killing her guarantees a Dragon Kiteshield and then a cape, and repeat runs earn pieces of Dragon armour, the Dragon Scimitar and the Dragon Crossbow.
The new materials are Runite ore and Luminite ore, which need an Adamant pickaxe or better, and Magic wood, which needs a Rune logging axe or better. The wiki adds the details of the run: you need to have finished Icthlarin's Little Helper and started Regicide, the buildable hub is called Rasthin's Rest, Commander Zilyana starts or resumes a run, and if you die during a run your gravestone appears near her instead of where you fell. The first area of the raid, Dragontail Vines, has the Runite, Luminite and Magic trees, and its enemies drop the residue for power level 8 gear.
How the map works
- Opening it. M on a keyboard or the View button on a controller, the defaults listed in the wiki. Areas you have not discovered stay under grey fog.
- Markers. Right-click the map to place icons for animals, a base, ore, plants, trees or a plain pin, up to 100 in total, or ping a spot for your group.
- The compass. The bar at the top of the screen shows the distance to vaults, kebbit burrows, your claimed bed, quest markers, player markers and your gravestone.
- What 1.0 changed. The Quest Menu sidebar folds away so you can see the whole map, active lodestones show on the map, and map icons grow and show a tooltip when you hover over them.
- What 1.0.1 fixed. The 1.0.1 update of 14 October fixed the map not opening properly on a mount and fog that stayed after an agility course, and agility courses now only appear on the map once you get close.
Lodestones and fast travel
Lodestones are how you cross Ashenfall quickly, and they are on the map once active. According to the wiki, you unlock the lodestone recipe with a Vault Core from a dragonkin vault, a trip costs law runes based on the distance and the weight you carry, and you cannot build one inside vaults, instanced areas or most of Dowdun Reach. Plan a lodestone at each region's edge as you push on, and keep your bags light before a long jump.
Interactive maps outside the game
The official wiki has a map on its Ashenfall page, with the regions and their areas listed below it. Community sites offer interactive maps too: MapGenie's map marks dragonkin vaults, lodestones and resources, and Wand has another. Check that the map you use already shows Umbral Sands and the Scorned Wilderness, which only arrived in June and September 2026.
What comes next on the map
Jagex's RuneFest 2026 roadmap of 3 October calls Luminance "our December update", a free update in which you can "resonate with Fairy Rings to journey to hidden destinations across Ashenfall". It also brings the Prayer skill, the Lyre, Songstones and a Prifddinas building kit. Jagex has not given a day yet.
After that comes the Blood Crystal Saga in two chapters. The first, Song of Rebellion, is planned for the first half of 2027 together with official modding tools, Secure Servers and leaderboards, and takes you to the elven city of Ailddinas and the forest around it, with the Hunter skill. The second, Crown of Night, sends you into the darkened lands of the Nos Clan. Jagex has not dated it.
Exploring Ashenfall on a dedicated server
A world on a dedicated server keeps running when the host logs off, so a group can split up and explore regions on its own schedule. Jagex's server guide allows up to 6 players per server and puts the RAM need at 2GB plus 1GB per player, 8GB for a full group.
Two recent patches matter for servers. Update 1.0.1 of 14 October fixed foundations and floors that could not be placed on a dedicated server where one had been destroyed, and Epic Games Store players who could not see dedicated servers at all. Hotfix 1.0.1.2 of 23 October fixed Linux-based dedicated servers crashing when players teleport (Jagex's own notes count lodestones, vault entrances and kebbit burrows as teleports), and Jagex notes that dedicated servers need a restart to apply it. Our Dragonwilds server hosting runs Jagex's Linux server in the Netherlands, from €8.99 a month for 6GB and up to 4 players, and checks for a new server version every time the server starts, so a restart from the panel picks up a patch. For running the server yourself, our guide to the Dragonwilds dedicated server with Docker or Pterodactyl walks through Jagex's setup.
