Half your group plays 7 Days to Die on a PC, the other half on a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox, and you want one world for all of you. So: is 7 Days to Die cross platform, who has to host, and can console players join a dedicated server? Everything below comes from The Fun Pimps' own release notes and pages, checked on 3 November 2026 against V3.4.0, the current stable build.
Quick answer: Yes, 7 Days to Die is cross platform. Since V1.2 (10 December 2024), players on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can join each other's games, and since V2.0 (27 June 2025) console players can also join dedicated servers. Every crossplay game has the same limits: crossplay switched on, Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) on, at most 8 players, no mods and the same game version for everyone. The old PS4 and Xbox One edition is not part of it.
Which platforms have 7 Days to Die crossplay
| Version of the game | Crossplay | What The Fun Pimps say |
|---|---|---|
| PC on Steam | Yes | Part of the V1.2 crossplay patch |
| PC from the Microsoft Store | Yes | The V1.2 patch came a little later, after certification |
| PlayStation 5 (Console Edition) | Yes | Part of the V1.2 crossplay patch |
| Xbox Series X and S (Console Edition) | Yes | The V1.2 patch came a little later, after certification |
| PS4 and Xbox One (old Telltale edition) | No | A separate game, delisted at the 1.0 launch |
Version 1.0 came out on 25 July 2024 on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows, and the V1.2 notes name a Microsoft PC Store version next to Steam. Crossplay followed with V1.2. Its experimental notes said it would "open up crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC clients, however no dedicated servers just yet", and the stable post of 10 December 2024 put it plainly: "Players on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC can now enjoy cross-platform gameplay." V2.0 Storm's Brewing then added "Dedicated Server Crossplay", and its patch notes list "Dedicated server and LAN server browsers for PS5 and Xbox". The Steam store page lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer among the game's features.
If you still play the Telltale edition on a PS4 or Xbox One, you are on a different game. The Fun Pimps delisted it at the 1.0 launch "to avoid product confusion"; owners can still play it, but it is not in the crossplay patch. To play with PC and current consoles, you need the Console Edition on a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S.
Who can join whose game
| Where the game runs | PC players | PS5 and Xbox players |
|---|---|---|
| A player's own game (PC or console) with crossplay on, EAC on, at most 8 players | Yes | Yes |
| A dedicated server that meets The Fun Pimps' crossplay requirements | Yes | Yes |
| A dedicated server with crossplay off or more than 8 slots | Yes | No |
| Any game or server with mods | Yes, some mods need a client install | No |
A server pinned to an older Steam branch or on latest_experimental | Only players on that same branch | No |
The rule behind the table is one line from The Fun Pimps' crossplay server requirements: "PC will be able to play on the servers regardless of settings, consoles will not." PC players can go almost anywhere. Console players set the limits for the whole group.
Playing together without a server
The quickest way is a game hosted by one of you. The V1.2 notes give the steps for cross-platform games to show up in the server browser:
- Get everyone on the same version. Console players are on the current stable build. PC players on Steam stay on the default
publicbranch under Properties, Game Versions & Betas, not onlatest_experimentalor an older version branch. - Turn crossplay on. On console, set General > Crossplay Enabled to On. On PC, set the same option, and The Fun Pimps add that "it also requires EAC Protected set to On". So PC players start the game with EAC, not through "Play without EAC" in the launcher.
- Stay within the limits. In The Fun Pimps' words: "Maximum supported player count for crossplay is 8 and world size of 8192." For a random generated world, pick 8192 or smaller.
- Make the game visible. The host changes server visibility from Not Listed to Friends Only or Public, the two multiplayer options the official wiki names, and the others join from the server browser.
An existing world can stay. The Fun Pimps wrote that "Enabling crossplay for those older save games should be safe as well", as long as the world fits the limits above.
The catch: a game hosted by a player is a peer to peer game that runs on the host's PC or console. Nobody can play while the host is offline, and the host's machine carries every blood moon horde.
Can console players join a 7 Days to Die dedicated server?
Yes, since V2.0, if the server is set up for them. PS5 and Xbox have their own browser for dedicated and LAN servers, and The Fun Pimps' requirements page (29 June 2025) lists what a dedicated server needs before consoles can join:
ServerAllowCrossplayset to true. Theserverconfig.xmlthat ships with the server has it set to false, according to the modding wiki's server guide.EACEnabledset to true.ServerMaxPlayerCountat 8 or lower.IgnoreEOSSanctionsset to false.- A few gameplay settings within set ranges, for example
XPMultiplierfrom 25 to 300 andLootAbundanceat 200 or lower. The full list is on the page.
The wikis add two conditions: no mods and the same version. The official wiki says modding "is only available on PC for the time being", and the modding wiki says crossplay "requires EAC to be enabled and the Mods folder to be empty" and that server and clients must be on the same game version and branch.
The server also tells you when something is off: since V2.1 it logs settings consoles do not accept when crossplay is on, and since V2.3 it shows a startup error for a crossplay config it cannot use. Our V3.4 update guide has the settings in serverconfig.xml and a checklist for when PS5 or Xbox players cannot join after an update, so they are not repeated here.
For a server at home: since V2.0 only PCs advertise LAN games, but "all platforms can search LAN", so consoles in the same network can find a dedicated server set up as above on a PC there.
To make a console player admin, add their ID from the server log to serveradmin.xml, with the platform PSN, XBL or EOS instead of Steam. Our admin and console commands guide shows the format.
What a mixed PC and console group can do
You have three setups to choose from, and they trade off the same things: who can join, whether the world stays online and whether mods are allowed.
- One player hosts. Free and quick to start, up to 8 players, PC and console together. The world is only online while the host plays.
- A vanilla crossplay dedicated server. Up to 8 players, PC and console together, no mods, and the world stays up when the player who started it is offline. You run the 7 Days to Die Dedicated Server (Steam app 294420) on a spare PC or rent one, with the settings above. On our 7 Days to Die server hosting you can change every setting through the panel or
serverconfig.xml; if PlayStation or Xbox players are in your group, ask our support team before you order, online from 08:00 to 20:00 UTC. - A PC-only server. For mods, overhauls such as Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy, or more than 8 players. Console friends cannot join it. Our mods guide covers which mods need a client install and which game version each overhaul needs.
Some groups run two worlds: a vanilla crossplay world everyone shares and a modded world for the PC players.
Keeping console players on the same version
Console players cannot pick a version. Steam's version branches and experimental builds are for PC: The Fun Pimps announce experimentals as builds "for Steam", as in the V2.3 b9 notes. Console updates have also come after Steam before. The Xbox and Microsoft Store versions of V1.2 were "taking a little longer than expected to pass certification", and before V2.3 went stable The Fun Pimps were "waiting on some localization translation changes before we can go stable on all platforms" (V2.3 b8).
So for a crossplay world:
- Keep the server and every PC player on the default
publicbranch. A server onlatest_experimentalor pinned tov3.3.0locks console players out. - After a new stable release, check that it reached consoles before you update a crossplay server. The server browser on console shows each game's version, which V1.2 re-enabled.
- On 3 November 2026, V3.4.0 is out on every platform. The V3.4.0 stable post says its hotfix is deployed "on all platforms".
FAQ
Is 7 Days to Die cross platform? Yes. PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have had crossplay since V1.2 in December 2024, in games hosted by a player and, since V2.0 in June 2025, on dedicated servers set up for it.
Can PS5 and Xbox play 7 Days to Die together? Yes. The V1.2 crossplay patch covers PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, so console players can join each other with Crossplay Enabled switched on.
Can console players join a 7 Days to Die dedicated server?
Yes, when the server has ServerAllowCrossplay and EACEnabled on, 8 slots or fewer, IgnoreEOSSanctions set to false, gameplay settings within The Fun Pimps' ranges, an empty Mods folder and the same version as the consoles. PC players can join regardless of these settings.
Can you use mods in a 7 Days to Die crossplay game?
No. Modding is only available on PC, and a crossplay server needs EAC on and an empty Mods folder. Run a separate PC-only server for mods.
How many players can a 7 Days to Die crossplay game have? Eight. That is the limit for a game hosted by a player and for a crossplay dedicated server.
Is the PS4 or Xbox One version of 7 Days to Die crossplay? No. The old Telltale edition was delisted at the 1.0 launch and is not part of the crossplay patch. Crossplay needs the Console Edition on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
