Open your Arma Reforger server to Xbox and PS5: crossPlatform and supportedPlatforms in config.json, mods on console, console admins and the limits.

Your group plays Arma Reforger on a PC, an Xbox and a PS5, and the server you set up only shows up for the PC players. That is the default: a new dedicated server accepts PC players only, and two settings in config.json decide who else gets in. Below is how to turn an Arma Reforger crossplay server on, what console players can and cannot load, and how to give a console player admin rights. Everything comes from Bohemia Interactive's own server documentation and patch notes, checked on 3 November 2026 against update 1.8.0.13, the current stable build.

Quick answer: To enable crossplay on an Arma Reforger server, set "crossPlatform": true in the game block of config.json and list "PLATFORM_PC", "PLATFORM_XBL" and "PLATFORM_PSN" in supportedPlatforms, then restart the server. Both settings are off by default, so a new server is PC only. Workshop mods work for PS5 players since update 1.4 (May 2025), but a PS5 has 25 GB for mods, so keep the server's mod list well under that. Console players have no Steam ID, so a console admin goes in the admins list by identity ID.

Who Can Host a Crossplay Game

Arma Reforger is crossplay between PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5. Bohemia switched on crossplay between PC and Xbox in update 0.9.5.109 (August 2022), and PS5 players joined with the PS5 release on 12 December 2024, when update 1.2.1.169 added PlayStation as a server platform.

Hosting is the uneven part. Bohemia's Server Hosting page says player hosting (starting a server from the game's Multiplayer menu) is only available on PC, and the 1.8 notes add that handhelds running the new Microsoft Store version can't host locally either. So your group needs a PC player who hosts with the Crossplay option on in the Host tab, or a dedicated server that keeps running when nobody is online. This guide covers the dedicated server. To install one first, see our Arma Reforger dedicated server setup guide.

What crossPlatform and supportedPlatforms Do

Both settings sit in the game block of config.json, and like every key in that file they are case-sensitive. Bohemia's Server Config page describes them like this:

SettingType and defaultWhat it does
crossPlatformtrue or false, default falseWhen true, adds PLATFORM_PC, PLATFORM_XBL and PLATFORM_PSN to supportedPlatforms if they are missing. When false, it does nothing.
supportedPlatformslist, default ["PLATFORM_PC"]The platforms the server accepts.

The three platform values:

ValuePlatform
PLATFORM_PCPC
PLATFORM_XBLXbox
PLATFORM_PSNPlayStation 5 (since 1.2.1.169)

You can't mix them freely. A server without mods accepts PC only, or PC with both consoles. The Server Config page lists PC with only one console, a console without PC, and Xbox with PlayStation but no PC as invalid. It names one exception, PC plus Xbox on a modded server, and a note from version 1.2.1 says crossPlatform does not add PLATFORM_PSN on modded servers. Both rules come from the time a PS5 could not load mods at all. Update 1.4 (22 May 2025) enabled the Workshop on PS5, and Bohemia's 1.4 notes say players on all platforms can now play modded content and fight together.

So set crossPlatform to true and also write all three platforms into supportedPlatforms yourself. Bohemia's own example config sets both keys as well, and your server then doesn't depend on what crossPlatform adds by itself.

Arma Reforger Crossplay Server Config, Line by Line

A complete config.json for a public crossplay server on Legacy Conflict, Everon:

{
  "publicPort": 2001,
  "game": {
    "name": "Everon Conflict | PC, Xbox, PS5",
    "password": "",
    "passwordAdmin": "ChangeMeNoSpaces",
    "admins": [
      "IDENTITY_ID_OF_YOUR_CONSOLE_ADMIN",
      "STEAMID64_OF_YOUR_PC_ADMIN"
    ],
    "scenarioId": "{ECC61978EDCC2B5A}Missions/23_Campaign.conf",
    "maxPlayers": 64,
    "visible": true,
    "crossPlatform": true,
    "supportedPlatforms": [
      "PLATFORM_PC",
      "PLATFORM_XBL",
      "PLATFORM_PSN"
    ],
    "gameProperties": {
      "fastValidation": true,
      "battlEye": true
    },
    "mods": []
  },
  "operating": {
    "joinQueue": {
      "maxSize": 10
    }
  }
}

Replace the two placeholders in admins with real IDs, or empty the list, before the first start.

  • publicPort: the UDP port players connect to, 2001 by default. Bohemia advises leaving bindAddress, bindPort and publicAddress out unless your network needs them. On a rented server, keep the port your host set.
  • name: what the server browser shows, up to 100 characters. Platforms in the name tell console players they can join.
  • password: empty means anyone can join.
  • passwordAdmin: the admin password, no spaces. More on admins below.
  • admins: identity IDs and Steam IDs of your admins.
  • scenarioId: the scenario to load. This one is the original Conflict on Everon, which Bohemia's patch notes now call Legacy Conflict. The setup guide shows how to find other scenario IDs.
  • maxPlayers: 1 to 128, default 64.
  • visible: true keeps the server in the public server browser.
  • crossPlatform and supportedPlatforms: the two crossplay lines from the section above.
  • fastValidation: Bohemia says to always keep this true on a public server. It is the default.
  • battlEye: BattlEye anti-cheat, on by default.
  • mods: empty here. Read the next section first.
  • joinQueue.maxSize: how many players can wait in line when the server is full, 0 to 50. The default, 0, switches the queue off.

Also start the server with -maxFPS set between 60 and 120. Bohemia's hosting page strongly recommends it, because without a cap the server can try to use all available resources.

On our Arma Reforger hosting, crossplay is off on a new server too, and you switch it on with the same lines in config.json, through the panel or FTP. If a setting also has its own field in the panel's Startup tab, change it there instead, and if an edit to config.json is gone after a restart, ask support (live chat, Discord or email, 08:00 to 20:00 UTC).

Mods on a Crossplay Server: What Xbox and PS5 Players Can Load

Reforger mods come from Bohemia's own Workshop, and the server's mods list is the set every player downloads and activates when they join. Console players get them the same way PC players do. Bohemia's FAQ says you can browse and download mods on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5, and only publishing needs a PC. Its answer on console mods adds that "depending on the mods, some limitations may apply".

The hard limit is storage:

PlatformSpace for Workshop modsBohemia source
PS525 GBUpdate 1.4 notes, 22 May 2025
Xboxgrows automatically from 1 GB up to 50 GBUpdate 1.7 notes, 28 May 2026

If your server's mods add up to more than 25 GB, a PS5 player can't download all of them and can't play on your server. That same space also holds mods they downloaded for other servers. Add up the sizes, dependencies included, and leave room.

Download time matters too. Bohemia's Workshop page (last edited November 2024) notes an Xbox restriction that caps downloads at 1 GiB per 5 minutes, about 3 MB/s. At that rate, a 6 GiB mod list takes an Xbox player at least half an hour to download on their first join. A shorter mod list gets console players into the game sooner.

Each mod entry needs only the modId from the mod's Workshop page. name is just a label and version is optional. Since 1.2.1 you can also mark a mod as not required:

"mods": [
  {
    "modId": "MOD_ID_FROM_THE_WORKSHOP_PAGE",
    "name": "Any label",
    "required": false
  }
]

With "required": false, the server drops that mod from the list with a warning in the log if it can't download it from the Workshop, instead of refusing to start. modsRequiredByDefault (default true) in the game block sets this for every mod at once.

Before you go public, ask one Xbox player and one PS5 player to join with the full mod list. For picking mods, see best Arma Reforger mods and scenarios.

Admin Access for Console Players

The admins list takes identity IDs and Steam IDs. Players on it can use #login without the password, and since update 1.4.0.53 (28 August 2025) the list holds up to 30 entries. Admins listed by identity ID also get a priority queue when the server is full. Bohemia's Server Config page says that queue doesn't work for admins listed by Steam ID.

For console players, the identity ID is the only option, because an Xbox or PS5 account has no Steam ID. It is the same ID the server uses for bans (#ban remove <identityId>). Bohemia's server pages don't say where a player can look up their own identity ID, so get it from the server side after your console admin has joined once, and ask your host if your panel doesn't show it.

The other route is passwordAdmin: the player opens the chat and types #login followed by the password. Bohemia's page gives the chat keys for PC only (C in the lobby, Enter in game), so test this with your console admin before a session depends on it.

Once logged in, an admin has these chat commands from Bohemia's Server Management page:

CommandWhat it does
#playerslists the players with their playerId
#kick <playerId>removes a player, who can rejoin
#ban create <playerId or identityId> <seconds> <reason>bans a player; 0 seconds is permanent, and a playerId only works while the player is online
#ban remove <identityId>lifts a ban
#restartrestarts the scenario while players stay connected

Bohemia's FAQ also says Game Master works on PC, Xbox and PS5 with controls designed for gamepads, and that its Admin mode, for managing the server and players, is open only to server admins. Our Game Master guide covers that mode.

Xbox and PS5 Players Still Can't Join? Check These

  1. Spelling. The keys and PLATFORM_ values are case-sensitive. Read the server log after the restart.
  2. The combination. PC plus both consoles.
  3. Visibility. visible must be true. The server browser also has crossplay filters (added in 0.9.5.109), so ask players to check theirs.
  4. Xbox account settings. Bohemia's patch notes show the game checks the Xbox account's crossplay privilege (0.9.5.109) and its permission to view user-created content (0.9.7.91). If an Xbox player can't see your server or its mods, check those settings on their account first.
  5. Mod size. Everything on the mods list, dependencies included, has to fit in the 25 GB a PS5 has for mods.
  6. Version. Bohemia's recent updates went out on all platforms at once (the 1.8.0.13 notes: "We updated the game on all platforms"), so update the server as soon as a new version is out. Run the stable server app (1874900), not Experimental (1890870): Bohemia's notes for the 1.8 and 1.9 Experimental builds name only Steam and Xbox.
  7. Microsoft Store players. Bohemia released the Microsoft Store version with Xbox Play Anywhere in 1.8. Its notes don't say which platform value that version uses. With all three values listed you cover every value Bohemia documents, but test a join with one of those players before a session.

FAQ

Is Arma Reforger crossplay between PC, Xbox and PS5? Yes. PC and Xbox since 0.9.5.109 (August 2022), PS5 since its release on 12 December 2024. On a dedicated server, consoles can't join until crossPlatform and supportedPlatforms allow them.

How do I enable crossplay on my Arma Reforger server? Add "crossPlatform": true and "supportedPlatforms": ["PLATFORM_PC", "PLATFORM_XBL", "PLATFORM_PSN"] to the game block of config.json and restart.

Can PS5 players join a modded Arma Reforger server? Yes, since update 1.4 (22 May 2025) enabled the Workshop on PS5. The server's mods must fit in the 25 GB a PS5 has for mods, and Bohemia says some mods may have limitations on console, so test with a PS5 player first.

How do I become an admin on my Arma Reforger server? Set passwordAdmin in config.json, join, and type #login followed by the password in the chat. Or put your identity ID or Steam ID in the admins list, which lets you use #login without the password. Console players can only be listed by identity ID.

How do I disable AI on an Arma Reforger server? Set "disableAI": true in the operating block of config.json. It stops all AI on the server, so it only suits scenarios meant for players alone. To cap AI instead, set aiLimit in the same block; the -aiLimit startup parameter overrides it.

Can I host a crossplay server from my Xbox or PS5? No. Bohemia's Server Hosting page says player hosting is only available on PC. Console players can join a PC player's hosted game with Crossplay on, or a dedicated server.
