Can Bedrock Players Use Simple Voice Chat on a Geyser Server?

Published on

Bedrock and console players can join a Geyser server with Simple Voice Chat but get no voice. Why, the messages they see, and the Discord and web bridges.

A pile of Minecraft blocks: grass, bricks, stone bricks, planks, logs, sand and diamond ore

Your Java server runs Geyser, so friends on phones, Xbox and PS5 can join, and it runs Simple Voice Chat, so Java players talk by proximity. Then a Bedrock friend asks why they hear nothing, or a PS5 player asks how to add the server and the voice chat in the first place. This guide answers both from the Simple Voice Chat and GeyserMC wikis and the docs of two add-ons that close the gap, checked on 3 November 2026.

Quick answer: Bedrock players can join a Geyser server that runs Simple Voice Chat and play normally, but they cannot use Simple Voice Chat itself. The mod has to be installed on every player's own Java Edition client, and Geyser cannot give Bedrock a client mod, so phones, consoles and Bedrock on Windows never connect to voice. Two unofficial add-ons fill the gap: Simple Voice Chat Discord Bridge lets a Bedrock player talk and listen through a Discord voice channel, with one Discord bot per player, and SimpleVoice-Geyser does the same through a web page, but it is alpha software and needs HTTPS for the microphone. Keep force_voice_chat=false, or Simple Voice Chat kicks every Bedrock player.

Why Simple Voice Chat does not work for Bedrock players

The Simple Voice Chat wiki never mentions Bedrock. What it does say settles the question. The installation page opens with: "You always have to install Simple Voice Chat on your client and your server." For the Paper plugin it adds that you need "the Fabric, Neoforge, Forge or Quilt version of the mod installed on your client". Those are Java Edition mod loaders. Minecraft on a phone, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch or the Bedrock app on Windows cannot load them.

Geyser does not change that. The GeyserMC FAQ explains that Geyser "emulates a Minecraft: Java Edition client, so the server actually thinks you're joining from Java Edition". About mods it is direct: "servers that require mods to be installed clientside are unsupportable through Geyser." To your server, a Bedrock player is a vanilla Java client without the voice chat mod.

Simple Voice Chat lets them in anyway: without the mod "you can still join, but you won't be able to use any of the mod's features." A Bedrock player hears nobody and nobody hears them. Running the Java mod on a phone is no way out either; the compatibility page says: "We don't support any other operating systems like Android, ChromeOS, iOS or FreeBSD."

The messages Bedrock and console players run into

What happensWhat the player seesWhy
A Bedrock player types /voicechat"You need to have Simple Voice Chat installed on your client to use this command"The commands page says the commands need the mod on your client
A Java player runs /voicechat invite or /voicechat test on a Bedrock player"(name) does not have Simple Voice Chat installed"The server checks the target player for the mod first
The server config has force_voice_chat=trueA kick about 10 seconds after joining: "You need Simple Voice Chat (version) to play on this server"The option kicks players without the mod
A console player looks for a way to joinNo Add Server button on Xbox, PlayStation or SwitchConsoles need a workaround for any server that is not featured

The kick is the one that looks like a broken server. The server config page describes force_voice_chat as "If players without the voice chat mod should be kicked from the server". It is off by default, and login_timeout (10 000 ms by default) sets how long the server waits before it checks. On a cross-play server, keep it off. Open plugins/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties on Paper, or config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties on Fabric, NeoForge, Forge or Quilt, set this line and restart the server:

force_voice_chat=false

Can you add a server from a PS5 and add voice chat?

Those are two separate problems.

Joining. Minecraft on PS5, Xbox and Switch has no Add Server button, so a PS5 player reaches your Geyser server through a workaround such as BedrockConnect. Bedrock 26.60, released on 27 October 2026, moved clients to NetherNet, and each workaround needed an update for it. Our console guide for Switch 2, Xbox and PS5 covers every route.

Voice. No setting makes Simple Voice Chat run on the PS5 itself, but the PS5 can join Discord voice, which the Discord Bridge below builds on. PlayStation's support page says you first link your Discord account to your PlayStation account. For a server's voice channel, open the Discord app on a phone or computer, join the channel, then "select the option to join on PlayStation, and then select your PS5 console". The console-only steps on that page cover Direct Voice Chats with people you have chatted with before, not server channels.

On Xbox, Discord's announcement of 13 September 2022 describes joining from the console: press the Xbox button, open the Parties & Chats tab, pick the Discord option to join a voice channel and choose the server and channel.

Option 1: Simple Voice Chat Discord Bridge

Simple Voice Chat Discord Bridge is an add-on "to allow for players without the mod to hear and speak", and its page names Bedrock players on Geyser as the example. On 3 November 2026 the newest version was 3.2.2 from 20 October 2026, with builds for Paper, Purpur and Folia, Fabric and NeoForge up to Minecraft 26.3. It needs Simple Voice Chat 2.4.11 or later, and the Fabric build needs Fabric API. The Simple Voice Chat team did not make it, so support goes through the bridge's own GitHub issues, not the Simple Voice Chat Discord.

Setup, following its README:

  1. Install the bridge next to Simple Voice Chat and start the server once. That creates the config: plugins/voicechat-discord/config.yml on Paper and Purpur, config/voicechat-discord.yml on Fabric.
  2. In the Discord developer portal, click New Application. Under Bot, click Reset Token and copy the token.
  3. Under Installation, set Install Link to None. Under Bot, turn off Public Bot.
  4. Copy the Application ID from General Information and open https://discord.com/api/oauth2/authorize?client_id=YOUR_APPLICATION_ID&permissions=36700160&scope=bot with your ID filled in. Invite the bot to your Discord server without switching off any of its permissions.
  5. Turn on Developer Mode in Discord, right click the voice channel the bot should use and click Copy ID.
  6. Put both values in the config and restart the server:
bots:
    - token: YOUR_BOT_TOKEN
      vc_id: YOUR_VOICE_CHANNEL_ID

In game, the Bedrock player types /dvc start, waits a few seconds and joins the voice channel as the bot instructs. In the README's words: "You should be able to hear players speak, and other players should be able to hear you speak." /dvc stop ends the session, /dvc group list and /dvc group join <ID> handle groups, and /dvc togglewhisper switches to whispering.

Plan for these limits before you invite everyone:

  • One bot is one person. In the README's example, "if you have 3 bots, up to 3 people can use the addon at the same time." Every extra Bedrock player who wants voice at the same time needs another Discord application and another voice channel in the bots: list.
  • One speaker per bot channel. If more than one person talks in a bot's channel, the README warns of "weird audio glitches" and recommends limiting each bot channel to 2 users: the bot and the player.
  • Reloading stops sessions. /dvc reloadconfig stops all running bots.

Console players type the commands in chat like anyone else. A separate add-on, DVC Bedrock GUI Addon, puts the /dvc commands in a menu, but its own page warns that it was coded by AI and that you should expect bugs, so try it on a test server first.

Option 2: SimpleVoice-Geyser in the browser

SimpleVoice-Geyser "extends Simple Voice Chat to Bedrock edition through a web interface": the player opens a web page and talks in the browser, with 3D audio according to the project. Its docs call it "alpha". On 3 November 2026 the newest release was 0.1.4 from 11 August 2026, and Modrinth lists that build for Minecraft versions up to 26.2, so check for a newer build before you add it to a 26.3 server. The install page asks for Paper, Purpur or Spigot 1.21.8 or newer (or Fabric), Simple Voice Chat 2.6 or newer and Geyser, with Floodgate recommended.

For the player it works like this: run /svg pswd <password> in game (on Bedrock, /svg alone opens a menu where Geyser supports it), open the web link the server owner gives you, log in with that password and talk.

For the server owner it asks more:

  • A web port. The built-in web server listens on port 8080 by default (server.port in its config), and the joining page notes that "this plugin uses TCP instead of UDP".
  • HTTPS. Its Modrinth page warns that audio from the browser to the server "is not encoded" and says to run it behind a proxy that adds HTTPS when players connect from other networks. Browsers push the same way: MDN says microphone access through getUserMedia() "can only be used in secure contexts", which means HTTPS or localhost. The project's fix for plain HTTP is a Chrome flag on every player's device, which it calls "a workaround, not a long-term solution". A reverse proxy runs outside the Minecraft server, so plan for a domain and a machine to run it on.
  • A new group password. Players who join through the website land in a group named Svg whose default password is 1a2b (server.group.default.password in the config). Change it.

The docs do not mention consoles, so a console player would need a phone or computer next to the console to open the page.

Option 3: one plain Discord channel

If proximity does not matter for your group, put everyone in one ordinary Discord voice channel. Players on a PC or phone can join it directly, PS5 and Xbox players through the routes above, and the server needs nothing extra. You lose voices that fade with distance, but nothing can break on the server side.

Ports for Java, Geyser and voice on one server

ServiceDefault portProtocol
Minecraft Java25565TCP
Geyser for Bedrock players19132TCP and UDP
Simple Voice Chat24454UDP
SimpleVoice-Geyser web page8080TCP

The Discord Bridge README has no port step at all: the bot connects out to Discord. The Geyser setup guide is strict about its own port: "No other program can use the Geyser port, over either protocol", and it names voice chat mods and websites among them. So every service in the table needs a port of its own. Our UDP port 24454 guide covers the voice port on a panel, a VPS and a home router.

On a Space-Node Minecraft server, every plan includes three port allocations: the game port plus two you add yourself in the panel at no cost, which covers Java, Geyser and Simple Voice Chat. The SimpleVoice-Geyser web page would be a fourth, so ask us in live chat and we can raise it to five.

FAQ

Does Simple Voice Chat work on Minecraft Bedrock Edition? No. It needs the mod on the player's Java Edition client, and Bedrock cannot load Java mods, with or without Geyser. Bedrock players can still join and play on the server; they just have no voice unless you add a bridge.

My friend sees "voice chat not connected". Is the Bedrock side the problem? No. That status comes from the mod on a Java client, so only Java players see it, and it usually means the voice port does not reach the server. Our Simple Voice Chat not connected fix walks through it.

Can Java players hear Bedrock players through the Discord Bridge? Yes. That is what it is for: players without the mod "hear and speak" through a Discord voice channel. Each Bedrock player who talks at the same time needs a bot of their own.

Can I invite a Bedrock player to a voice chat group? Not with /voicechat invite: the server answers that the player does not have Simple Voice Chat installed. On the Discord Bridge, a Bedrock player finds the group with /dvc group list and joins it with /dvc group join <ID>. When you type a Bedrock player's name in any command, include the Floodgate prefix: by default their names start with a dot (username-prefix: "." in Floodgate's config).

Will Simple Voice Chat kick Bedrock players? Only when force_voice_chat=true. Then every player without the mod, Bedrock players included, is kicked once login_timeout runs out. Set it to false and restart.

Is there a voice chat made for Bedrock instead? Bedrock Voice Chat is a separate project with its own client app for Windows 10 and 11, iOS and Android, plus a Bedrock server pack or a Java mod on the server side. Its README says it aims for "feature parity with Simple Voice Chat for Java", so it is a voice system of its own rather than an add-on for Simple Voice Chat, and it does not list consoles.
