This is a preview post. Minecraft 26.3, nicknamed the Dappled Forest update, has not shipped yet. It is expected around September 29, 2026. Nothing below has been added to a live version yet, so treat this as a heads up for planning purposes rather than a changelog.

The Dappled Forest Biome
The headline addition is the Dappled Forest biome itself, which gives the update its name. As with any new biome, expect it to generate only in newly explored chunks once the update ships, existing worlds will not retroactively grow the new biome into already generated terrain. This is the same pattern we saw with the recent Chaos Cubed update's sulfur caves, so if your community wants to explore the new biome quickly, plan on opening new territory or pre generating fresh chunks once 26.3 is live. Poplar Wood Set
A new Poplar wood set is expected, following Minecraft's established pattern of adding a full matching block family (planks, doors, fences, and the rest of the usual wood set) alongside a new tree type. For builders, a new wood color and grain option is generally welcome without requiring any server side changes beyond the version update itself.
Shelf Mushrooms and Straw Beds
Shelf Mushrooms are a new mushroom block, and Straw Beds are a new bed variant. Both fit Minecraft's typical pattern of small, standalone content additions that do not require special server configuration, they behave like other decorative or functional blocks once the update is installed.
Camping Items
The update is also expected to add camping themed items. No further specifics are confirmed beyond that framing, so we are not going to guess at exact item names or mechanics here. We will update this post with real detail once 26.3 actually ships or Mojang publishes fuller patch notes.
Why We're Covering This Early
Minecraft is the largest content category on this site, and past major updates have shown that server communities benefit from knowing what is coming before it lands, especially anything that touches world generation, since that affects decisions about whether to keep an existing world or plan a fresh one. This is the same logic behind our other early preview coverage, publishing what is confirmed ahead of a release date gives server owners time to plan rather than scrambling on launch day.
What Server Owners Should Do Now
Since 26.3 has not shipped, there is nothing to install or configure yet. A few things worth doing in the meantime:
- Keep your current server updated and stable. The best position to be in when 26.3 ships is a server that is already current on 26.2 (Chaos Cubed) with healthy plugin and mod compatibility, not one that skipped updates and now has to catch up twice.
- Think ahead about world generation. If your community has been on the same world for a long time, a new biome update is a good natural point to plan a border expansion or a fresh exploration world, the same approach that applies to any generation focused update.
