What Are Artifacts?
Artifacts are the compiled FXServer build, the executable and supporting files that run a FiveM server. They are released continuously on the Cfx.re artifacts page, each with a build number.
There are several channels:
- Recommended (stable): well-tested, marked as the safe choice
- Optional/Latest: newer builds with the most recent features and fixes
- Critical: builds that fix important security or stability issues
Recommended vs Latest

For most communities, stick with the recommended build. Only move to latest if a resource you use requires a newer artifact.
How to Download Artifacts
- Go to the Cfx.re artifacts page for your OS (Windows or Linux)
- Note the build number next to "recommended"
- Download that build's archive
- Extract it over your server folder (back up first)
How to Update Artifacts
- Stop the server
- Back up your current server folder
- Download the new artifacts build
- Replace the artifact files (keep your
resources,server.cfg, and data) - Restart and test
Never delete your resources or config when swapping artifacts, only the build files change.
Avoiding Version Mismatches
A common error is a version mismatch between your server artifacts and what the client expects, or between artifacts and a resource:
- Keep artifacts reasonably current, very old builds get refused by updated clients
- Match resource requirements, some scripts need a minimum artifact build
- Read changelogs before updating to catch breaking changes
- If players get "version mismatch" errors, update to a current recommended build
