Terraria 1.4.5 Is Out: Should Your Modded Server Update Yet?

Published on

Terraria 1.4.5 Bigger and Boulder shipped in January 2026, but tModLoader is still on 1.4.4. Here is the real status and why your Calamity or Thorium server should probably wait.

Terraria 1.4.5 tModLoader status

Terraria 1.4.5, "Bigger and Boulder," launched on January 27, 2026, with the current stable desktop build at 1.4.5.6 since March 9, 2026. If you run a modded server, here is the one thing that actually matters before you touch anything.

tModLoader is still on 1.4.4

As of now, tModLoader has not shipped a stable release for 1.4.5. Development is still on a contributor-only 1.4.5-dev test branch, and a public stable modded release is still months away. Porting tModLoader to the previous major version, 1.4.4, took roughly nine months, so this is not a small patch away.

That means Calamity, Thorium, and every other tModLoader modpack your community runs are built for 1.4.4, not 1.4.5, and will stay that way for a while.

What this means for your server

  • If you run a modded server: stay on 1.4.4. Nothing changes for you today. The tModLoader team has confirmed 1.4.4 will be maintained as a proper legacy version, the same way 1.3 and 1.4.3 still are, so it is not going to suddenly break or lose support out from under you.
  • If you run a vanilla server: you can move to 1.4.5 now if your community wants the new content. There is no mod compatibility to worry about.
  • If you are unsure which your community needs: check whether your world relies on any tModLoader mods. If it does, you are on 1.4.4 territory regardless of what the vanilla version number says.

Why this matters more than it seems

Jumping a vanilla server to 1.4.5 while your community still expects Calamity or another modpack to work is the single easiest way to break a server this year. World saves, mod configs, and client versions all need to line up, and right now that means staying on 1.4.4 for anything modded.

We will update this post the moment tModLoader ships a real 1.4.5 branch. Until then, treat "1.4.5 is out" and "you should update your modded server" as two completely separate questions.

Space-Node's Terraria hosting supports both 1.4.4 with tModLoader and current vanilla out of the box, switchable from the panel. See our Terraria hosting plans or the full tModLoader setup guide if you are installing mods for the first time.
