How much RAM does a Hytale server need?

For a small group starting a fresh world, 4GB is a sensible starting point. Larger groups and worlds that have been explored heavily are more comfortable on 8GB or more. Because the game is early in its life, we would rather you start smaller and move up than overpay for headroom you may not use.

Is Hytale like Minecraft to host?

There are similarities, since both are block based worlds where memory use grows with explored area rather than with player count alone. But Hytale is its own engine with its own server software, so tuning advice written for Minecraft does not transfer directly.

Can I add mods to my Hytale server?

Yes. Hytale has had an in-game Mod Browser since Update 6, and server-side mods go into the server's own mod folder. You have full file access on every plan, so you add and update those mods yourself. Mods can break after a game update, so back up first and check that each mod supports the current version.

Can I move to a bigger plan later?

Hytale entered Early Access on 13 January 2026, and we have hosted it since. That matters mostly because early games move quickly: server software changes, requirements shift, and advice written in the first month can be wrong by the third.

On sizing, the honest answer is that Hytale behaves much like other block based worlds. Memory use tracks how much of the world has been generated and explored rather than how many people are logged in at once. A small group on a fresh world does not need much, and 4GB is a sensible place to start. Groups that have explored heavily or run larger player counts are more comfortable at 8GB or 12GB. Since the game is young, we would rather you start on a smaller tier and move up than pay for headroom you might never use.
