Garry's Mod's April 2026 update added two new mountable games to the Source engine lineup, with permission from their respective developers: Black Mesa and Military Conflict: Vietnam.
Two new games you can mount
If you or your players own Black Mesa or Military Conflict: Vietnam on Steam, their maps and models become available inside GMod for Sandbox and other gamemodes, the same way mounting Counter-Strike or Half-Life 2 content has always worked. Nobody needs to buy anything extra to use GMod itself, this just unlocks the content for players who already own those games.
For servers built around building or roleplay in specific settings, this is a real content expansion: Black Mesa's Half-Life remake environments and Military Conflict: Vietnam's assets are now fair game for maps, addons, and Workshop content without a third-party conversion.
HUD improvements
The update also polished several default HUD elements:
- Weapon selector, damage indicators, health, and ammo displays all got visual polish.
- The ammo HUD now correctly displays ammo for modded weapon types that use secondary clips, a real fix for weapon addons that previously showed incorrect or missing ammo counts.
- The default weapon selector can now display more slots and scrolls automatically when a player has too many weapons equipped to fit on screen at once, useful for sandbox and roleplay servers where players carry large loadouts.
What to do on your server
Nothing is required to receive these changes, they ship with the base game update. If you want to actually use the new mountable content:
- Make sure Black Mesa or Military Conflict: Vietnam is owned on Steam by whoever needs the assets (server owner for server-side content, each player for anything they need mounted client-side).
- Check any Workshop addons or maps built around this content for compatibility notes from their authors.
- If you run a heavily customized HUD addon, verify it still displays correctly after the update, since the vanilla HUD elements changed underneath it.
Space-Node's Garry's Mod hosting supports Steam Workshop collections and any mountable content out of the box. See our Garry's Mod hosting plans or the Workshop collection setup guide if you are setting up a new server.
