MC Special 1
- AMD EPYC 7443Shared CPU
- Most groups, the pack's 8GB heap
- 12GB DDR4 RAM
- 70GB NVMe
- Pterodactyl panel included
- DDoS Protection Included
Cursed Walking publishes no server RAM advice or player counts. These sizes follow the 8192M heap in its server pack's start file plus memory for Java; hordes and exploring add load.
3 server port allocations included. Up to 5 available on request.
Instant setup in your selected region.
CPU matters
Minecraft cares about single-thread speed. In the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Canada, Premium runs Ryzen 9 9950X. Standard runs the AMD EPYC 7443 in the Netherlands, Germany and Poland and Ryzen 9 3900X-class in Canada. California and Virginia run the 7950X3D on Standard and the 9950X on Premium, Singapore and Australia the 5950X, and India the 3900X-class. The CPU is shared on every plan.
Protection choices
DDoS protection is included on every plan in every region. Premium in Europe and Canada and every USA plan run behind Cloudflare Magic Transit; Standard, Singapore, Australia and India use standard protection. There is no paid add-on.
Panel included
Console, files, backups, schedules, startup flags, and sub-users are ready.
9 regions
Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Canada, USA (California), USA (Virginia), Singapore, India (Mumbai), and Australia. EU, NA, Asia, South Asia, and Oceania covered.

Sized from the server pack
How we sized the Cursed Walking plans
The server pack's start file asks for -Xmx8192M -Xms8192M, a heap of 8GB (as shipped, that setting does not reach Java; see before you start). Java needs memory on top of the heap for itself, so we keep the heap at about 80 to 85 percent of the plan, as in our guide to exit code 137. A heap of 8GB therefore fits 12GB, our suggestion. The pack page asks players to give the game at least 4GB and preferably 6GB, so 8GB, with a heap of about 6500M, is the smallest plan we would use. Cursed Walking gives no player counts, so the sizes below follow the size of your group.
Small group
MC Diamond, 8GB RAM
The smallest plan we would run Cursed Walking on: a heap of about 6500M with room left for Java, for a few friends who mostly stay together.
Standard €7.20, Premium €13.99 a month
Our suggestion
Most groups
MC Special 1, 12GB RAM
Runs the 8192M heap the server pack's start file asks for, with room left for Java itself. Raise -Xmx to about 10G as the group grows.
Standard €10.80, Premium €21.99 a month
Bigger group or public server
MC Special 3, 16GB RAM
For more players exploring in different directions at once, which means more new city chunks to generate, on top of hordes of up to 125 mobs at a time. Set -Xmx to 13G or 14G.
Standard €14.40, Premium €27.99 a month
Running the server
Cursed Walking things worth knowing before you start
The start file's 8GB heap does not reach Java
The start file, start_server.bat, runs java -jar server.jar -Xmx8192M -Xms8192M nogui, but flags after -jar server.jar go to the program, not to Java. That program is a Forge server starter (version 3.5.7): it starts Minecraft with user_jvm_args.txt, where the -Xmx line is commented out, and ignores its own flags while that file exists. Without a heap setting, Java takes a quarter of the memory it can see. So if your server starts through server.jar, write the heap into user_jvm_args.txt: about -Xmx6500M on 8GB, -Xmx10G on 12GB.
A horde every 10 days
The Hordes settings in the server pack send a horde every 10 in-game days, with up to 125 horde mobs at once, and beds do not work while it lasts. The day cycle pauses while nobody is online. If the server slows down during a horde, the config itself suggests raising hordePathingInterval (now 10) in config/hordes-common.toml.
Zombie AI can be demanding
The pack wiki says zombie AI can be quite demanding and advises a lower simulation distance. On a server that setting lives in server.properties, where the server pack sets simulation-distance=10 and view-distance=10. Lower simulation-distance there if the server struggles while many zombies are around.
Voice chat needs its own port
The server pack includes Simple Voice Chat on UDP port 24454. Every plan includes 3 port allocations: create one in the Network tab of the panel, set port= in config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties to that port and restart.
No backup mod in the pack
The server pack makes no backups of its own. Take a backup in the panel before every update or mod change. Panel backups are made by hand; automatic off-site backups are an optional add-on at checkout.
Start from the server pack
The client pack also carries shader packs and other client files. The server pack has the 219 mods a server needs, the gun data in the tacz folder and the pack's data packs in config/openloader. Build the server from it, not from a copy of your own game folder.
Setup
From order to first join
Step 1
Pick 8GB or more and a region
Your server and control panel login arrive by email after payment.
Step 2
Install Forge, then the server pack
Use the panel's modpack installer if it lists the pack. Otherwise install Forge 1.20.1-47.4.0 from the panel, unpack the v3.3 (patch) server pack and upload its mods, config, defaultconfigs, kubejs and tacz folders over SFTP. Set Java 17 in the Startup tab and a heap that fits your plan. The pack's eula.txt already says eula=true, so starting the server means you accept the Minecraft EULA.
Step 3
Match the version, open the voice port
Players install Cursed Walking v3.3 (patch) in the CurseForge app, the same version as the server. For voice chat, create a port in the Network tab of the panel and set it as port= in config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties.

Cursed Walking Hosting FAQ
- We suggest 12GB (MC Special 1): it holds the 8192M heap the server pack's start file asks for, with room for Java itself. 8GB (MC Diamond) is the smallest plan we would use, with a heap of about 6500M, and 16GB (MC Special 3) suits a bigger group. The pack page asks players to give the game at least 4GB and preferably 6GB; it publishes no server RAM figure or player counts.
- Not in a way Java reads. Its start file, start_server.bat, runs java -jar server.jar -Xmx8192M -Xms8192M nogui, and everything after -jar server.jar goes to the program, not to Java. That program is a Forge server starter (version 3.5.7), which starts Minecraft with user_jvm_args.txt, and there the -Xmx line is commented out. Without a heap setting, Java takes a quarter of the memory it can see. If your server starts through that server.jar, write the heap into user_jvm_args.txt yourself: about -Xmx6500M on 8GB or -Xmx10G on 12GB.
- Cursed Walking v3.3 (patch) runs on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.0, as set in the server pack's forge-auto-install.txt and in the client pack. Minecraft 1.20.1 is built for Java 17. You can pick the Java version in the Startup tab of the panel.
- On the Cursed Walking CurseForge page, open the Files tab, pick v3.3 (patch) and look under Additional Files for its server pack (about 730 MB, added on 23 August 2026). The v3.3 release from 7 August 2026 has none, so use the patch. The zip holds the mods, config, defaultconfigs, kubejs and tacz folders, a server.properties and a Forge server starter with a start file for Windows.
- Yes. The newest version, v3.3 (patch), came out on 8 August 2026, the day after v3.3, and its server pack followed on 23 August 2026 (CurseForge, checked 25 October 2026). The pack page lists version 3.4, with world generation performance work, and version 4, with bosses, as coming next, subject to change. Take a backup from the panel before you update.
- Every 10 in-game days with the server pack's settings, never on the first day, with up to 125 horde mobs at once. The number of mobs per wave grows by 10 percent with every horde, beds do not work while one lasts, and the day cycle pauses while nobody is online. The settings live in config/hordes-common.toml.
- Yes, once it has its own port. The server pack sets Simple Voice Chat to UDP port 24454. Every plan includes 3 port allocations at no cost: create one in the Network tab of the panel, set port= in config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties to that port, leave voice_host empty and restart the server.
- No. The server pack contains no backup mod. Take a backup from the panel before every update and before you change mods or configs, so you can roll the world back if something breaks.
- Yes. Everyone needs the exact same pack version as the server, so v3.3 (patch) on both sides. The patch updated two mods "for better server compatibility", so players on v3.3 should update too.
- Yes. Download the world folder from your old host and upload it over SFTP, set level-name in server.properties to its folder name and make sure the server runs the same Cursed Walking version the world was last played on. Or add the One-time Server Migration when you order: it costs €15, charged once, and our team transfers the world for you.
- The one closest to most of your players. We run Cursed Walking servers in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Canada, the USA (California and Virginia), Singapore, India and Australia. The plan selector measures your ping to each region live from your browser and suggests the fastest.
- Yes. Our support team answers by live chat, Discord and email, 12/7 from 08:00 to 20:00 UTC, and can look at your startup settings and heap with you.
