The Aternos Alternative That Stays Online

Aternos is free and works well for a few friends who play together. A paid server keeps running all the time: no queue before it starts, and still online after the last player leaves. Your world comes with you.

CPU matters

Minecraft cares about single-thread speed. In the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Canada, Premium runs Ryzen 9 9950X and Standard Ryzen 9 3900X-class. California and Virginia run the 7950X3D on Standard and the 9950X on Premium, Singapore and Australia the 5950X, and India the 3900X-class. The CPU is shared on every plan.

Protection choices

DDoS protection is included on every plan in every region. Premium in Europe and Canada and every USA plan run behind Cloudflare Magic Transit; Standard, Singapore, Australia and India use standard protection. There is no paid add-on.

Panel included

Console, files, backups, schedules, startup flags, and sub-users are ready.

9 regions

Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Canada, USA (California), USA (Virginia), Singapore, India (Mumbai), and Australia. EU, NA, Asia, South Asia, and Oceania covered.

What changes when you leave Aternos

Aternos is free and works well for a few friends who play together. These are the four things that change on a paid server. The Aternos side comes from Aternos' own pages, linked under each point.

Price

On Aternos

Free. In Aternos' own words: “There is no possibility to pay for anything.”

Source: aternos.org

On a Space-Node server

A monthly plan: €2.70 for 3 GB on Standard, €5.25 for 3 GB on Premium. Longer billing terms are cheaper per month at checkout.

Starting the server

On Aternos

When Aternos is at full capacity, you wait in a queue before your server starts.

Source: Aternos help: Queue

On a Space-Node server

No queue. The server is already running when you and your friends join.

When the last player leaves

On Aternos

A countdown starts once the server is empty, and the server stops when it runs out. Aternos does not offer 24/7 hosting.

Source: Aternos help: Stop countdown, 24/7 Hosting

On a Space-Node server

It keeps running. Your server stays online 24/7, also when nobody is playing.

Playing again later

On Aternos

Someone starts the server again on the Aternos website, or joins through Aternos' Dawn launcher, which can start it automatically.

Source: Aternos help: Dawn autostart

On a Space-Node server

Nothing to start. Your friends connect to the same address whenever they want to play.

Which plan fits an Aternos world

Pick by RAM and by the Minecraft version you play. You can move up to a bigger plan later and keep your world.

Monthly prices for the Netherlands, Germany and Poland, billed in EUR. The plan picker above shows the price in every region. The CPU is shared on every plan; the RAM in your plan is reserved for your server.

Move your Aternos world in five steps

Your world is yours: Aternos lets you download it, and you upload it in our panel.

  1. 1

    Download the world on Aternos

Wait until the server has stopped, so the download has the latest save. Open the Worlds page of your Aternos server, select the world and click Download. You get a zip file. If the list also shows world_nether and world_the_end, download those too.

  2. 2

Order a plan and match the setup

Pick the same server software and Minecraft version in our panel. Start the server once so it creates its files, then stop it.

  3. 3

Upload the world in the panel

Unzip the world on your computer, delete the fresh world folder the server generated, then upload yours with the file manager in the panel. For worlds over about 1 GB, use SFTP: the address and username are under Settings in the panel, and the password is your panel password.

  4. 4

Check the folder name and online-mode

The folder name has to match level-name in server.properties, usually world. Keep online-mode the same as on Aternos, where Cracked on means online-mode=false; changing it can cost players their inventories and positions.

  5. 5

Add your plugins or mods and start

Install the same plugins or mods, start the server and watch the console. Test with a friend, then give your players the new address.

Rather have us do it?

Add the One-time Server Migration when you order. It costs €15, charged once, and it is meant for moving from another host to Space-Node: our team transfers the world for you. Questions first? Ask in live chat.

When Aternos is still the better pick

You play together at set times

If your group plays a few evenings a week and does not mind starting the server first, free Aternos costs nothing, and that is hard to beat.

You want to pay by the hour

exaroton, the paid service from the Aternos team, charges 1 credit per GB of RAM for every hour the server runs. That suits short sessions; a monthly plan suits a server that should be online for a good part of the day.
